Smog - Rock Bottom Riser

I really like the way he sings and the sparse guitar.

Ted Leo & The Pharmacists - Little Dawn

Quality tune this, always used to skip it for some reason (intro sounded a bit dodgy compared to the awesomeness of the previous track) but glad I stuck with it, one of my fave songs on the record now.

It's true Bergtatt is amazing it's my second favorite Black Metal album, behind Filosofem and slightly above Under a Funeral Moon and Nachthymnen.

Kapitel II - Soelen Gaaer Bag Aase Ned is my favorite track from it. just because of the beauty that is that flute...

Windir - Sognariket Sine Krigarar

If anyone has a chance to get the Windir DVD get it, it's amazing.

What's the best Windir CD to start with? I like Vikings and I like metal so they sound like my kinda thing.

"1184" or "Arntor Ein Windir" are both very good, Windir were one of the best Viking bands around.

edit: Actual now that I think about it the double cd "Valfar Ein Windir" is probably the best spot to begin, it was released after Valfar died as kind of a tribute, The first disc has the unfinished songs Valfar was working on when he died as well as a few live tracks and some pretty big bands like Enslaved, Fintroll, Emperor etc playing tribute with some cover songs and stuff. It's the more collectors sort of disc, the second disc is a pretty good "best off" has about three or four songs from each album on. That way you can work out which era you prefer.

Fushitsusha - Pathétique

Odd. Japanese rock noise with a deliberately tame rhythm section and Keiji Haino doing ungodly(but not very interesting) things to his guitar. One long noisy solo basically. I am no stranger to noise, or feedback for that matter, but the first part of this album just seems to lack ideas. Reminds me of the dull title track on Acid Mothers Temple's "Starless and Bible Black Sabbath". This last feedback barrage, all 44 min. of it, seems more worthwhile though.

Whats the new Porcupine Tree album like?

It's easily becoming one of my favourite ones. It feels a lot more adventurous than Deadwing, good mix of influences while keeping their classic sound. Not quite up there with 'Stupid Dream' but top 3 material. "Anesthetize" (the 17 minute beast) gets a whole lot better with every listen.

At times his feedback manipulations are compelling, I'll admit that.

Magma - Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh - Nebehr Gudahtt

I'm listening to the new Ozzy album this very moment. I got ahold of it last night, but kept getting sidetracked by Ninja Rap (Yes, I know, I have a fucking problem, what of it?!), somehow. Only a couple songs into it. It's not bad, but it's by no means anything inspired. So far, it seems like "Hey, it's Ozzy and Zakk Wylde...again..." It's essentially the same album he's put out three or four times since 1991. If I hadn't heard No More Tears, Ozzmosis, Down to Earth or pretty much any of the last four BLS albums, I'd probably appreciate it more. Some of it is pretty catchy, but I'll take Diary of a Madman or Mafia any day. Uh oh, gotta go, a solo just led into a chugging riff with that little guitar squeal that happens every seven or eight seconds.

At The Gates - The Architects

Ornaments in silent darkness,
The image of man now torn from its structure

The smell of need,
the dwarfed soul of man,
attuned only to flesh
suffering from frustration

Alien to our own spirits
We're naked even in death
The dawn is yet to come
To fill us with knowledge

Pulsating waves of colour,
bleeding off into the black
A whisper of red screams through the night
The architects and the flesh

Killer song from an awesome album.

The Sunshine Underground - Somebody's Always Getting In The Way

This song kind of annoys me. The copy of this album I had for ages was burned for me by a friend, who forgot to include this one (track 6). Now that I've redownloaded it to see what I was missing, I kinda wish I hadn't, 'cos I love every other song but this one's a bit boring and totally ruins the flow of the CD.

No probs, the New Singer (I think she's from Greece) Is really good, they've certainly come along way fom when it was Protector's Sister singing in Silenius' basement...

If you are interested Protector's third band Ice Ages is pretty good as well, though I've only heard one album. It's a weird sort of EBM pretty interesting.

SynSun - Laser Show

Ukrainian psychedelic trance act. The first disc of this album is just fairly standard, albeit flawlessly-executed psy... the second cd is where it all gets interesting, shitloads of different influences all mashed up, it's got guitar solos and everything. This song sounds like Porcupine Tree flying through space. And they're robots. Or maybe some kind of aliens.

Misery Business- Paramore

I really REALLY didn't like it at first, but I listened to it a lot so I could get used to it and not feel miserable when they played it at the show.  I still think it's kind of stupid (sort of a less poppy version of Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend") and the video doesn't help, but it's a lot of fun to sing along to, and I think the singer has an amazing voice.
