I tried for a long time to get an address to where they were playing in chicago, and noone would respond. not the band, the booker, anything.
screw them.

When I played in a band in high school, we would always book shows with a band that would rarely show up on time, if at all. They always came up with some decent excuses, but eventually we just gave up on them.

I've never been to a concert when the band didn't show up, but when I saw the White Stripes, I wished they hadn't shown up, it felt like the longest concert of my life. And the one with the least amount of good songs.
On the Doherty thing - I like his music, well, some of it anyway. The first Libs album was pretty boring, but the second one was much more fun to listen to, with only one or two songs that I didn't like. Babyshambles, on the other hand, are incredibly patchy, there's one, the first couple of songs on Down in Albion that are downright awesome. The rest are bloody awful. Oh, and I'm British, and tired of seeing him drumming up publicity by getting caught doing drugs all the time. I'd say a minimum of half the people who buy his record do so because of hearing about him in the tabloids.
Carl Barat, on the other hand, is much better. He's pretty much just a more consistent version of Doherty.
StrikeThePostman:
Well, The Mountain Goats could've copped out on their Los Angeles show last night because John Darnielle was sick and couldn't exactly sing, but they got on stage and did their best to make it worthwhile for the audience. It was really admirable.
