Elliott Smith is awesome. He hits it right on for what he does..I feel if anyone tried to emulate him, they would suck at it.

Many have tried, and many have failed :-)

He's pretty amazing. My favorite songs are King's Crossing and Between the Bars.

Miss Misery, Waltz 2, Memory Lane and Twilight are mine. King's Cross is very close as well. One of my best friends is probably the BIGGEST Elliott Smith fan one could ever be so she got me into him. I wish I have more than two of his albums, he's got the voice of an angel.

Last Call, Happiness, Memory Lane and Sweet Adeline would have too be my favorite songs, and if i had too pick a favorite album...it would be, From a Basement On the Hill.

And i must say that your friend has excellent taste, but then again i say that to anyone that likes Elliott Smith

I'm a big Elliot Smith fan and my friend who just started recording some singer-songwriter stuff has a voice similar to his, I mean I don't think that it hurts that he's the biggest Elliot Smith fan I know.

Elliott Smith was a genius.

Either/Or is by far my favourite album. Basically because each and every song on there is a real.. SONG. Like I could listen to them over and over again and never get bored. Maybe slightly suicidal, but not bored.

Good Will Hunting would have been a good film, but it was made great by his music.

Sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead, but it was the most recent Elliott Smith thread I found, and so, yeah...

I just got a new unreleased elliott demo anonymously by YSI, and it's on my site.  That's all.

(oh yeah, my site; it's in the music forum.  I don't know why I didn't just give you the direct link to the page, but now that I've typed all this out, it's too late to care.

I don't understand how you can miss somebody's music if you're still listenning to it. It's not like you sold all your CDs is it? When a musician dies, mourn a little while, then get back to listenning to the music they did put out.

Well, except for the occasional low bitrate leak of unreleased,  unfinished songs that are better than most pop artists A-game, it is sad to know that there's no more new music coming from him :(

i loved elliott smith's music, but i still laughed my ass off when the emotron said in an interview that he was "more suicidal than elliott"

I got into ES's music when Royal Tenenbaums first came out, cause of Needle In The Hay in Ritchie's big scene, and it remains pretty much my favourite Elliott Smith song, ranking right above Waltz #2 and A Fond Farewell. He definitely pumped out some good music in his day

A friend of mine got me into Elliott Smith's work.

Unfortunately it was long after he died. I find his music really haunting, mostly because he's dead.

Also, my friend was really pissed when he killed himself because ES is what kept her from offing herself. Wierd how that works.

Oh yes, forgot to mention my favorite songs:

Say Yes
Ballad of Big Nothing
Speed Trials
Rose Parade
Punch and Judy
Pictures of Me

>.> <.< >.> OK... so I like a lot of his stuff. Sue me.

i agree with phrozen, between the bars is fricken haunting but it creeps me out even more when i'm in my bed listening to it and i think, oh my god a dead man is singing to me.

anyways. his guitar-ing was brilliant, many of his songs were brilliant, but his voice kind of sucked though. i mean in the albums his voice was kinda alright, real quiet and emotional but have you guys ever heard a recording of him live? yeesh.

Hehe, someone recently suggested an interpretation for that song that I really liked. I don't know how right it is, but it still sounds good:

It's a love song from a bottle/flask to a drinker...

There are some awesome videos of Elliott on youtube.  They'll never take her love away is an awesome song that I heard for the first time on youtube.  I'll supply links when I get home but I'm at a job training thing on my buddy's sidekick right now.
