If we sacrifice him on a pagan altar made of broken Pavement records, will Sleater-Kinney be reborn?

EDIT:  I'm quite content he's back and can't wait to hear where he's going to go artistically.  All the solo stuff I've heard were either Neutral Milk Hotel songs or pretty much identical to Neutral Milk Hotel songs (not that that's necessarily a bad thing . . . . )

Not getting Aeroplane II is precisely what would get me excited.

Holy Fuck!  I actually read the thread of forum posts.  And they were discussing how likely it was that one of their forum trolls had posted that message under "nigh".  But I was all, surely someone on the forum knows the guy.  Now it turns out to be true.  Mark my words good people: forum trolls can ruin lives and hopes and dreams.

If Jeff made new music, i would be happier than my bastard son would be if i showed up on christmas.  (Jeff Magnum is the coolest name ever.  It sounds like he would be a mustachioed porn star in the 70's)

Actually, Jeff was the cool male name of choice in the '90s.  In the '70s I believe it was Steve.  (In the '80s it was Mike.)

Has anyone read the new 33 1/2 book on 'In the Aeroplane...'? There's a great fantasy from a fan about Jeff living in the woods and making beautiful music for himself and when he's finnally released there will be an explosion of light and everybody will know he's returned"
Its a bit more elaborate then that

Jeff will return when he's ready, I hope. You could argue that guys like The Arcade Fire are running with the In the Aeroplane thing (though NOT the Fiery Furnaces- matt specifically said he never listened to NMH...) but it ain't the same

Whatever he does it should be different. And brilliant. And just... wonderful.

Hard to talk about him without getting choked up, i think

It is... its all about him and his group of friends forming bands and being different bands and making music and just being beautiful.
Its really great.
Another great thing i read about them was a salon.com review of a Decemberists album that talked about NMH alot.
Someday i want to make a documetnary about them

What exactly is Jeff's magic?

He plays simple guitar chords with very simple percussion tracks in very simple arrangement/strum patterns and sings.

I guess it's the voice and the lyrics, but it's amazing.
