I KNOW I'm going to see Against Me!, The Soviettes and The Epoxies in November. If I miss that concert I will fucking kill something.

I'm hoping to see A Silver Mount Zion in August, but we'll see.

I just grabbed tix to the august 29th show (buffalo)- $10, only a 10 minute walk from my house. didn't even know they were coming around my area lol. Also xiu xiu in mid-october....

Just saw Band of Horses at the Warsaw in Williamsburg.  Bridwell was in top form, and contrary to some of the stuff I've read, the band was mostly in tune and spent relatively little time tuning.  They saved Funeral until the end of the encore, which was pretty clever on their part I thought.  The new material sounds great, although its a little softer and more emotive than the stuff on Everything All The Time.  Some cock in the audience yelled "Freebird!", apparently the same person who yelled "When is the next album coming out?"  I thought Bridwell was going to find him and strangle him for a moment, but he just made a joke out of it and played on.

All in all, great concert.  Highly recommend to anyone on one of the remaining touring dates who was considering it.

Funeral is the perfect song to end off a set with. Man I wish I could see them.

I am seeing Eric Clapton with my whole family this july, which for me is mainly to see the old rock dinosaur. I don't listen to his music and I am as tired as anyone of his ballads(oh die Tears in Heaven). Does he play any Cream nowadays? I could go listen to some of it for kicks.

However he forgot EVOL which is obviously better than Murray Street and without hearing any of the other stuff I highly doubt they can top that.
Accessible? Pfew! You want to get to the good stuff no? everyone's first taste of The Youth should be EVOL. It has Expressway to Yr. Skull, In the Kingdom #19, Tom Violence, Shadow of a Doubt, Star Power, Marilyn Moore etc. All veritable classics if you ask me, even the satirefeast Bubblegum is great.

I have planned myself a trip.

I'm going to see the Pitchfork Festival, stay with my brother in Minnesota, then storm back down into Illinois to watch Lollapalooza.

This will be several shades of awesome.

We can just reccomend Anagrama (well, not really) or Hidros 3 and watch as they never ever listen to your suggestions again. But yes EVOL is great.

For sheer accesibility, however, we'd reccomend Rather Ripped and Dirty. I recently started listening to Dirty again, and I honestly can't remember why I hated it.

And concerts: Summer season remains dry, with only one band (Zoé) worth seeing, and that's not until September.

I will be at the Sonic Youth/Go! Team show in Milwaukee on August 6, and I think that'll mosly be it, unfortunately. It should be fun, though. I'd much prefer to see Confusion is Sex/Bad Moon Rising/EVOL material, but Sonic Youth's new songs aren't bad, and there's always a chance they'll throw in a really old one. As for the Go! Team, I'm not familiar with them but I've heard some good things, so it can't hurt.

I saw Sonic Youth on Friday, and they were incredible.  The majority of the songs they played were new, but they played a song off Confusion is Sex during the encore, and it was mind blowing.

That's great, Karl. Which song was it? I re-listened to the live in Venlo CD the other day, and it's amazing.

Conspiring winds in the world have brought me great fortune in this department.

While trying to figure out a place to stay when myself and Johnny C go to Winnipeg on Saturday to see Wilco, I looked up an old friend from around there. He can't let us crash at his place, but it looks like he has an extra ticket to the Flaming Lips/Sonic Youth show at the Minnesota State Fair. So I'm pretty much there, and I'm spinning uncontrolably in my swivel office chair at the thought.

Other than all that, I'm checking out the amazing Ladyhawk, Jagjaguwar signees and friends of the Blood Meridian and Black Mountain crews. Plus, Steve Earle is playing in my town, so I'm gonna be sneaking out of a wedding to check it out. Wolf Parade's on the same night, but I know where my loyalties lie. And it isn't with the bride and groom, apparently.

I'm going to that winnipeg show it's going to be fantastic, if I had room I'd let you guy's crash, but no luck. There's many a hotel in the very close vicinity to the show, it should be fine.

Lady Sovereign/The Streets tonight at Webster Hall.  I anticipate being one of the three people there more interested in seeing Lady Sov than Mike Skinner.  But I don't care.

Well, the 2nd tour bus broke down somewhere, so I saw Destruction, Kataklysm and Vader. I really, really wanted to see Graveworm, but being able to see Destruction play Bestial Invasion was good enough for me. On the plus side, I didn't have to sit through those two other crappy bands.

Oops. That's not the best way to find out. Sorry.

While I'm at it, I can't make it to your wedding (whenever that may be) or any of your birthdays for the next five years. It's easiest to tell you this way.

As per a new DFA 1979 album, they aren't planning one, they're planning three, or at least according to this vintage Pitchfork post. I haven't heard anything more than that, and the news item says it was supposed to be out spring 2006. If they are still recording the album they've been tight lipped about it.

Maybe Jesse just wants to devote more time to MSTRKRFT.

Fuck yes!

I just got back from Bright Eyes in Saskatoon (three hour commute each way) and it was a very damn good show! Gruff Rhys, guys, is officially pure awesome. He messed up during the first song and the audience was all "YEAH IT'S OKAY YOU STILL ROCK" and he finished it and it was devastatingly beautiful like most of his set was. Also, I won't ruin it, but when he offers to play the song with the birds in it you should accept heartily.

Bright Eyes themselves were pretty good. They played "Train Under Water," "Poison Oak" and a rather spare version of "Lover I Don't Have To Love." Also, Oberst definitely played "First Day Of My Life" solo. I was sad there was no "Bowl Of Oranges" or especially no "Road To Joy" but he's got such a massive catalogue that I guess you can't have it all. It was still pretty radical though.

The venue kinda sucked ass; it was basically part of the city's exhibition grounds and thus was a big concrete room with enormous curtains separating us from backstage and a big beer garden that I hated because it meant that we were in that shitty venue so some promoter could set up a beer garden and make some additional scratch, gahhhhhhhh. And there was no merch. So going into it, there were two strikes, but they managed to hit a decent triple, if not an inside-the-park homerun.

I was there too!! I agree, the venue was absolutely terrible. It was like a barn in there. Terrible. And then the no merchandise thing kind of sucked. I nearly cried when Conor first started. He was amazing. I loved First Day of My Life. Also, after the show I got Conor's beer cans! Three of my friends and I, after everyone had asked for the set list and what not, asked for the beer cans. And they were still cold and still half full so we drank them (in the bathroom.) He was drinking Labatt Blue. So then I did too. And then, my friend found $110.00 on the bathroom floor. So, it really was the best night of my life. I drank Conor's beer, still have the can, became $110.00 richer (well my 3 friends and I) and I got to listen/watch Conor all night.

Oh. And I MIGHT be going to the Calgary Folk Fesitval to see Feist (for my second time) and Broken Social Scene. Hopefully.

(PS I'm one of Tawnya's best friends.)

I saw Neko Case on Sunday.  The opening act was a surprisingly good folk artist named Sonny Smith.  His lyrics were witty and he had a great presence.  In between him and Neko I ran and bought both the records he has, one EP and on album.

Neko Case, however, blew him away.  Her stage banter was hilarious and her voice was superb.  To tell the truth, I wasn't at all familiar with her solo stuff, but I'm going to have to go and pick some up, I was just massively impressed.  Halfway through one song a string on her guitar broke, so she had to stop and use a different one for the song, while she switched she was cracking jokes the whole time.  If any of you have the chance to see her, I highly, highly recommend it, it was easily one of my favorite shows.

This I also recall.

Good luck with the Broken Social Scene. Also, Feist is the only artist I have time to see at the Folk Fest in Regina this year; however, since she's doing some day sessions with a locla band I am excited.

If I don't get to go to Calgary Folk Festival... Right now, it's not looking promising, because for some reason my mom doesn't feel like going to see her son in Calgary so I can be happy and go see BSS and Feist, then I will most definitely be at the Regina Folk Festival, to see Feist. If only my parents weren't so paranoid, and would let me go by myself. But, I guess that's understandable.

Marauder: That sounds amazing. You're very lucky to be able to go see all of those bands. I'm in awe.

BSS last week.  Mission of Burma, the Siren Festival, and possibly the free Yo La Tengo show at Prospect Park next week.

For Siren Festival, I'm planning on hanging out at a good location at the Stillwell stage all day and seeing:

Priestess
Man Man
Dirty on Purpose
Serena Maneesh
The Cribs
Art Brut
Stars
