i learned to play stairway just so I could tell people to go screw themselves as soon as they mentioned it.

I learnt to play it because it's fun, it's good practice for some common chord changes and arpeggiations, and because it's actually fairly tricky to play well (particularly the solo, which I still can't do end to end at speed).
I don't have a problem with people who can play Stairway To Heaven. I just get cranky at the people who learn the first couple of phrases and give up then, or the ones who play it badly.
