Well if it's a good song it's a good song, regardless of who it's by or what genre it is.

Mind you, Pitchfork is a bag of old wank.

Pitchfork always seems pretty lame to me, this being a fine example of why.

It's not lame because of this particular review maybe. It's certainly lame because they are musical snobs who wouldn't know a good record if it popped up at their mother's house and stuck a pencil up their ass.

I must admit I have a soft spot for Mister Timberlake. He can groove.

OK I really would enjoy finding an mp3 of this song, seeing as I've got a rather huge musical hard-on for T.I. any help?

The latest act of Pitchfork wankery is not reviewing the new New York Dolls album. If they claim to be supporting indie, why are they avoiding reviewing an album by punk legends who ultimately paved the way for indie rock?

Because they are a conglomerate of pseudo intellectuals who made it their mission to take Indie culture and do to it what Rolling Stone did to rock.

Same here.

For the record, it pisses me off when a person asking for help is constistently ignored. At least acknowlege that the person said something.

i don't really like pitchfork.

i haven't heard the new timberlake single, but i don't think i want to because he was talking about his new album on some show that was sort of not watching and from what i did hear about it, it sounds like dirty pop. dirty pop is so blah.

Two of the happiest days of my life:

1) when I realised that enjoyable pop was enjoyable pop regardless of who recorded it, and that I could have much more fun if I stopped worrying about what was cool and hip and just started tapping my foot instead;

2) when I realised that other people have different opinions from mine, and that those opinions, when based on nothing more than an emotional response to a given set of stimuli (such as, say, a pop song) are no more or less valid than my own, and that my opinion can co-exist with any other person's opinion without making any of us lesser people.

I don't hate pop music at all. When I think of the music I was raised on (Classic rock and a ton of MoTown) it was ALL pop music at some point.

What I don't like is people taking credit for a great songwriting achievement by parading around hollywood or wherever like their shit don't stink, getting paid millions to be a poster child for someone's actual hard work.

I respect great songwriters and great songs, not dime-a-dozen, "could have been any pretty person at all really" pop stars.

No, that's "SexyBack", which is indeed ass. This new one hasn't even been released yet, which is another thing about Pitchfork that drives me nuts - where do they get these songs? I can't even find it on LimeWire.

The bottom line is that Justin needs to stop pretending he's Prince.

It has to be out to the public to some extent if it's on Limewire, obviously. That  wouldn't even be the course of action for Pitchfork anyways, they probably have a deal with the artists so that they have access to music before it's released. That's not uncommon in the reviewing world, you know. And if the music is out to reviewers exclusively, I doubt they would put the songs up on Limewire.

I thought about that, but I wasn't sure Pitchfork had those kind of deals for major label artists.

They also gave "Promiscuous" five stars, and that song single-handedly made me listen to the radio again, so they could be right about this one.

So you had to wait for the critics to tell you it was okay before you could decide it was good music? As opposed to normal people who make their own judgements?
Me, I loved Justified. Catchy as fuck and hella dancable. Haven't heard this new song but I'm sure it's ok.

I KNOW i'm sexless and gutless.
Well, excpet for those times i get dragged to punky shows and mosh, kinda.
But mostly, yeah, sexless and gutless. Listen to Belle & Sebestian stuff like 'Put The Book Back On The Shelf' for a pretty decent description of things
but hey... i know what i like, and beardy guys growling really loudly ain't it... though if anyone can recomend me some real absurd Viking/fantasy metal that'd be hilarious

and yeah, i do rely on critics too much. most people hate them. thus i'm rebelling, or something.
but i like Meatloaf! and Bruce Springsteen. wooohoo

Turisas, Finntroll, Hammerfall, Rhapsody, Sonata Arctica

The first three are your best bet. Especially this gem by Hammerfall

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nE7zQa-eA3M Hammerfall - Hearts on Fire
It will be one of the most ridiculous power metal videos you've ever seen.

you shouldn't rely on them, you should just think about what they say. like just because a critic says something is good or bad doesn't mean it is, but you should listen to something you are curious/excited about and you'll either agree or disagree with them. i don't hate critics....i just think a lot of them are full of crap. especially the ones who sound like they didn't even listen to the album.

and don't let anybody tell you that there is something wrong with springsteen. ;)

The problem is that currently, what is considered hip is whatever Pitchfork says is hip. This isn't always a bad thing, as you may get to listen to some frickin awesome music you wouldn't have heard otherwise. But they have a position of far too much power, as they are sort of the pot at the end of the rainbow for internet hype, as they have altogether ignored plenty of exceptional stuff as well.
