Okay, i get my fix of melodrama, and non sensical dictators slaughtering anyone who dares to be a hero from the news, so, what are peoples suggestions on good comedy shows and what not?

#1 No junk posts, put something you enjoy as a comedy and a small synopsis, none of the crap to get your post count up please!

My personal faves are:

1)Quads! - Animated TV series, loosely based on John Callahans comics, Drunken guy finds himself recently crippled and ends up with a house and a fair wad of cash from the ensuing lawsuit...

Basically right the way through political incorrectness abound, but it's people just dealing with things the only way they know how, by ruthlessly taking the piss out of everything around them, and even themselves =) Good Gear :D

2)Puppets who kill - Show out from Canada about a bunch of supposedly reformed ex-con puppets, living in a halfway house with their social worker, and just really getting into all sorts of hi-jinks

To sum it up its really about putting cutesy characters in rather adult situations and watching everything go downhill from here (If you liked Death to Smoochy, chances are you'll be a fan of this too) :)

And for good measure, a feature film
3) Death to Smoochy: Basically about the corrupt seedy underbelly of childrens programming, drugs, sex, bribes and bullshit, all convieniantly wrapped up in a bow :P

It's got Ed Norton, and Robin Williams, some people i know, just didn't get this, but really, its just about the juxtaposition and imagine-ing these guys as pure idols adored by millions of kids when in fact they're even seedier than the average pornstar :P

Thats my lot, but what are your faves?
Certainly seen a lot of black books fans around here...

Death To Smoochy was terribly underrated...it was hilarious, it was dark as all fuck, and Ed Norton played his character brilliantly.

For television, I'm partial to Scrubs, The Office (both English-language versions), Mr. Show, Arrested Development, and yeah, that looks about right.

Movie-wise, Wes Anderson flicks get me every time. I also like the occassional, well-done bit of broad comedy, like Anchorman and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

Arrested Development, Futurama, Trailer Park Boys, Corner Gas and Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Movies: Python always gets me, as do Kevin Smith movies.

Except Jersey Girl, right? Because otherwise, Kevin Smith = spot on.

Only TV comedy I've seen in the last ... 3-5 years ? that I've really liked has been Black Books.  And that's not amazing, just solid.

Actually, Nathan Barley was pretty great from time to time.  Can't go past a bit of Chris Morris.  Kinda have to know design wankers, I guess, but the electroclash happening where a singer tunelessly shouts "TERRORISTS .. ARE GAY" while graffiti and stencil art stuff flashes nonsensically on a screen was spot on.

I've heard heeeaps of good things about A Mighty Boosh, but never saw it.

Jersey Girl was never made in my small, self-centered universe. Also, I'm not a huge Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back fan. Thank god Clerks 2 was gold, otherwise I'd have lost faith.

I like things that are fun. Liking things that are fun is a pretty decent thing. I don't quite understand your contempt for fun.

jeez

Anyway, everything mentioned so far has been pretty decent. I have really been enjoying My Name is Earl for the time that it has been on, I enjoy the way it has a really cheap, trashy aspect to the comedy, but it manages to keep the writing at a level so that it never talks down to the audience.

I am also eagerly waiting a R4 release of Reno 911, because it is on so rarely on cable TV here, that every dose is like a deliciously concentrated shot of bliss. It's just that whole classic comedy of errors, with every single thing going wrong, which always cracks me up when done correctly.

*Sigh* Ahh screw it...
I should've known better than to ask here.

As for fun things, Human male here, looking for adoption as pet!
Will, nuzzle, show great affection and affinity and loves a nice cuddle :)

>.> Well, got that out of my system, i dunno, i really like hugging/cuddling, except people can never really seem to fully seperate it as a "non-sexual" thing, oh well, such is the life of a lonely boy who makes awful puns and crude sex jokes all the time i suppose...

Sidetracking Aside...

Red Dwarf: If you aint heard of this, where the Smegging hell have you been!?!
Basically the main character is a drunken yobbo who just gets himself into all kinds of shit, but, the main thing is, he's the last man in existance...

He was put in status (Basically Cryogenic slumber) for two weeks on a Mis-demeanour but ends up coming out 3million years later due to his crewmate/room mate inploding the ships drive engines leaving the whole thing as an uninhabitable radioactive wasteland...

He ends up with a creature that evolved with his cat, a holographic version of said roomie, and an Andoid...

So, perhaps my summary dont really do it justice, but its a great show, and i've always enjoyed it, true, there's a few crap episodes, but that happens to every show.
Found it good for a chuckle, and really thats what comedy is all about :)

The thing about Red Dwarf is that towards to the final season, it lost all it's charm.
Series 7 wasn't the same, still fun, but series 8 was stupid.

oh, ffs, i'm just going to abandon all hope here...
Anyways, i kinda thought 6 and 7 were crap, But i did like 8...

It had various cool things...
Like a T-Rex that can take out an entire battalion due to one dodgy curry
And spaceships getting lodged up rats arses! Bonza! =P

I dunno what happened for it to change, but, eh, new, writers, or perhaps the same one's but just getting tired of doing the same crap over and over...

That aside, my arse has been deemed violatile and dangerous on several occassions, i'am yet to holt an angry mob with it...
I might've cleared a room, but i don't think i've knocked anybody out =P

I'm going to make a point of at least posting one thing each post though!

Cromartie High: Okay, so this is an Anime, but dont deny it, you know you love this shit

It's basically about a guy who gets thrown into a school full of rufians, there's turf wars, a gorilla, a Freddy Mercury look-a-like and a mechanised humanised robot (Like pintsize, only more violent, less cute)

Generally its just weird antics and various mishaps, like classmates eating your stationally and mistaking you for your mother...
But, that happens to everyone, Right!?

Okay, so what i put here, dont really do it any justice, but go off and watch an ep or two, its got really cool intro's and outro's, so if you dont like the show, at least you'll like the opening and closing music =P

This just really cracked me up...
Bloody brilliant!

Oh, you want summaries?

OK.  Black Books is a British TV series about a book shop run by a drunken misanthrope called Bernard Black.  He lives and works with a guy called Manny, who's manic and largely insanely positive, and they're often visited by their friend Fran.  The humour is mainly all about their different character quirks and continuing drunkenness.

Nathan Barley is also British, is about a complete tosser in London.  He has his own "autonomous media node" (website) called trashbat.co.ck ("Trashbat dot cock, yeah? Check it out my n1gger" he tells the cornerstore owner as he slaps a fluoro sticker on the guy's chest) where he posts his pranks, his new mobile phone has MP3 decks, he uses completely obscure hype words ("keep it dusty!") and is generally a dick.

The foil to Nathan is Dan Ashcroft, a surly journalist who has written an article on "The Rise of the Idiots", all about people like Nathan.  Of course, the people he's criticising don't see themselves in the article and through the course of the series he starts to become celebrated as their hero.  Whatever he says to criticise anyone gets taken as part of his schtick...

I haven't seen a Mighty Boosh, but it's the guy who plays Dan and another guy from the above show.  They're zookeepers, but I was told it's completely barmy and every episode they manage to work in song and dance numbers in different styles.

I never saw an episode of the Mighty Boosh on TV all the way through, but if it's anything like the radio series, then it probably includes jazz numbers and is very, very strange.

i love red dwarf lol smegheads!

i prefer live comedy shows to tv comedy though, i live for my local comedy club! fringe festival is starting soon which means loads of extra gigs yayness!!! Favourite live acts wold have to be tommy tiernan, ed byrne, matt sadlier, damien clarke, maeve higgins and ann gildea. if you're not irish you probably won't know half of them but trust me you are missing out they make you laugh till you're on th floor pleading for mercy then they make you laugh some more.....and some of them will even go get pissed with you after the show...matt sadlier is THE funniest guy i've ever met, comedy is just a hobby for him but he could make it as a full time comedian if he wanted to! if you see him advertised near you and you don't go then you need help!!
