Burzum, Gorgoroth, Cirith Ungol, Isengard and a whole lot of other bands got their names form Tolkein.
So did Ephel Duath.  IIRC, there's a list of bands with names from books somewhere.  I'll try and find it.

EDIT: The List

If we're going to list every single metal band that took their name from something else, we are going to list every single metal band in existance.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Has anyone mentioned the fact that Jethro Tull was the first person to patent the seed drill?

I have a pretty full list of these somewhere, me and my friends use it to play a drinking game with the Lord of the Rings movies.

Fair enough. I've been away for three weeks, and feel no need to read all eight billion pages of the threads I've not read.

some girls - the smiths
saves the day - some line in a movie
american nightmare - misfits
local band called "between the ends" took their name from a thrice song.

Quote
Mars Volta got their name from an interview with the director Felini(sp?)

ummm, dude. the word 'volta' was used to describe the changing of a scene by an 18th century(or maybe earlier, i could be getting this part wrong) playwrite. that's not really stealing, more like translating.

Can't believe nobody's mentioned They Might Be Giants.

It's a line from some terrible sci-fi movie, incidentally.
