This doesn't seem to have been doing the rounds very fast, but Jon Nodtveidt, front-man of the legendary Dissection, shot himself in the head on wednesday. He left no suicide note, simply a single burning candle and an open copy of The Satanic Bible.

Yes, he was an asshole. Yes, he killed someone pretty much just for kicks. But this is still a sad day for anyone who likes metal, though many would argue that the true Dissection is already long dead.

Actually, he just killed him. The fact that he was gay was, by all accounts, beside the point. Otherwise, his sentence would have been much longer (hate crime). People always just report that the guy was gay because it makes it sound worse, as if, you know, you can get worse than killing people at random*. I never have and never will condone any black metal-related crimes.

Besides, the mans life and the mans music are seperate beasts.



*I have this vague memory that he claimed in his defence that the man had drawn a knife, but seperating fact and fiction in these cases is always a bitch.
