LLLLLOL

Also get some stuff by The Afghan Whigs, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Cure, Bahaus, etc. Jokes are jokes but really all those bands had impacts on Interpol's sound.

You'd probably like Tapes'n'Tapes, Modest Mouse, Frog Eyes, Sunset Rubdown, The New Pornographers and Metric (the last two I suggest because you seem to dig Canadian music).

Concerning Metric - be sure to avoid Live It Out and go for older stuff instead. It's not a very good album.

For adventure only:
Wäldchengarten - Electrical Bonding
Goodiepal - Narc Beacon
Jim O'Rourke - I'm Happy and I'm Singing and a 1,2,3,4
Migala - Restos de un Incendio
Set Fire to Flames - Telegraphs in Negative/Mouths Trapped in Static
Ulver - Blood Inside
Einstürzende Neubauten - Halber Mensch
Gang Gang Dance - God's Money
Boredoms - Seadrum/House of Sun
Ash Ra Tempel - Ash Ra Tempel
also, if you can, pick up live recordings of the Gamelan band Dwi Mekar. They are amazing.

It is something of a mild adventure but an adventure none the less.

It's not. It's just a common Interpol critic sort of line, except replace "got" with "stole" and the period with ", LOL."

Anyhow, PM is right. Go with Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? for best results with Metric. I also forgot to check if anyone had mentioned either Stars or The Stills, but you'd probably want to check out both, and especially both Stills albums. The first one is very Interpol-ish, but the new album, Without Feathers, is much warmer, rowdier indie-rock and a lot less post-punk. There's even horns on it!

From the mystical title of I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One to this, it's clear the band has, if nothing else, increased their sense of humor.

Oh man, they've always had a sense of humour. Check the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPjkP8yDEt0" target="_fresh">video to 'Sugar Cube' from I can hear the heart... Seriously one of the funniest videos of all time. The band gets sent to rock school and their first lesson is "if you want to write rock lyrics you must learn about where the hobbits dwell".

I fully endorse Art Brut and Camera Obscura (though I'd recommend getting Underachievers Please Try Harder first).  I also must insist that you purchase a copy of Lonely People of the World, Unite! by Devin Davis.

I'm not talking to just the original poster here, that goes for ALL of you people.

Also, byebyepanda, I am currently digging Okkervil River and I think they would fit in quite well with the stuff you apparently enjoy listening to.

Look, if the dude wanted to branch out, he would have just said "Guys, I want you to yell LISTEN TO THE VENETIAN SNARES at me over and over again"

Sometimes people just like to get stuck in a rut is all. Hell, trawling conversations in this place gets me into all kind of interesting new sorts of bands, maybe the guy just wants to find more obscure bands he can name-drop, without having to guess the genre.

Was just a little impatient because we did this post less than a week ago. Search the forums first, I say, before asking for recommendations.

Or even better, look up allmusic.com or even Wikipedia to find stuff you like. You know your tastes better than a bunch or random people do based on generally accepted indie-popular music.

If you really like Interpol's first album id go ahead and reccomend Mogwai, or Explosions in the sky. Im pretty sure interpol's more instrumental songs help me get into those bands, or if you want more upbeat like BSS and AF id go ahead and check out Tortoise - TNT

Having said that, everyone should actually listen to that Venetian Snares album with the weird-ass title. It's a work of genius.

Thunder, Lightning, Strike is one of the best party albums I have heard in a long time.  But I am a harmonica happy bastard.  Still, its the sort of music that nobody really objects to, many people like, is catchy, upbeat, and dancalicous without being EDM.  Hence, awesome party music.  NFI if ByeByePanda will like it though...

I saw them at Big Day Out (crappy festival) earlier this year and wasn't to impressed with them, I guess it was fairly energetic, but didn't really do much for me, only really went to see Mars Volta though, so didn't pay them too much attention...

Speaking of which the new M.V album "Amputechture" is really good, you may want to check that out.

Hmm I'd say its more like the second half of Frances mixed with parts of De-loused mixed in, think 'Drunkship of Laterns' mixed with 'Cassandra Gemini' the guitar especially reminds me a lot of Pink Floyd with a little bit of Rush thrown in, definately their most "proggy" album. Cedric does a lot of different stuff with he's vocals too. I guess some people would say its pretty pretentious, I'm a fan though...

I guess it depends what parts of De-loused you like, if you liked the proggish tracks like Cicatriz and Televators you'll like Amputechture.

If you like Wolf Parade, have you given sunset rubdown a listen yet? I think it's my favorite album of 06 so far. and Swan Lake just leaked, it's a band made up of the keyboardist/singer from wolf parade, the guy from destroyer and another guy from Frog Eyes. so far it sounds pretty good.

let's see what else. Panda Band is a cool band from teh aussies, try them out.

also try The Big Sleep. :D
