Yeah, there's some legal reason why it's actually illegal to have a big archive of cover images. Copyright blah blah. So online shops or review sites like Allmusic are gonna be your best bet outside of Google Image search.

nuisance:
I found the Album Art Aggregator was a pretty useful way to search various incarnations of Amazon etc. and grab images quickly.  

You point it at a folder on your PC and it uses folder names etc. as search terms to find covers.

Because I'm amazingly interesting and unusual I found this only worked for about 50-60% of my CD collection, but that was a damn good start. ;)
