Beck's new album The Information
« on: 29 Sep 2006, 19:17 »

In my opinion this album is on par with  Odelay, Sea Change, Mutations, and Midnight Vultures (IE. Damn good).

Anybody agree or disagree?

I think I'm In Love and (especially) Cellphone's Dead are killllllller.

Wait? New Beck album?  Hell, I'll edit this post with a valid response as soon as I get a hold of it.

Edit: Done.

Haven't listened through the whole album yet but I have to say that Strange Apparition is an awesome song.

I haven't even looked for his new CD yet, I've been too busy looking for the Beck (artist) VS Beck (anime) mash-up track. http://www.tokyopop.com/beckvsbeck/

Does anyone think less of Beck because he practices Scientology?

AS 4 ME, NO. NO I DON'T.

From what I understand, he has tried to distance himself from Scientology.  Also, I can't hold it against him because both of his parents were/are scientologists so he was born into a scientologist home.  People don't get to decide who their parents are, so as long as he doesn't end up being one of the more sordid and potentially dangerous scientologists it's all good.

Man, I don't think anything could be on par with Midnite Vultures or Odelay. But yes, this album is pretty darn kicking.

He's back into Scientology but as long as he doesn't take a nosedive into complete self-parody in the style of Tom Cruise he's A-OK in my books.

I've heard a lot about him coming back into Scientology, but I don't know the source? Can someone link me?

Also: What do people think about the album!? Scientology is a dumb thing to debate about.

I haven't heard the whole thing yet, but because my twin brother is all sorts of gae for Beck, I heard a few tracks before the album was released, and enjoyed it.

I can't say I've listened to the album yet, though I will be rushing over come Tuesday to pick it up.

However, I can say this in regards to the Scientology thing: I remember in the year round up issue of Magnet in 2001, there was an unsuccessful Beck interview that ended in the patented Beck Hang Up where, before the interviewer ranged into topics that pissed him right off, he asked Beck about the Scientology thing, to which Beck answered that yes, he was a practising Scientologist. Or maybe he just said no comment. My memory's getting foggy, but who can blame me? Jesus, it was five years ago. I remember the piece was called "Beck Ate My Homework" or something like that. I better get points for that.
