Recommend me something from Dischord's catalog
« on: 27 Sep 2006, 16:44 »

So, I'm going to buy Fugazi's Repeater, and I want to check out something else from Dischord.  I want to buy them together, to save on shipping, so recommend me something good.  I was thinking maybe Faraquet's The View from This Tower, as I have heard a song or two off of it, but I am very open to other suggestions.

I'm partial to The Argument and 13 Songs.

any album from Q And Not U (my favorite is No Kill No Beep Beep, like Tommy reccomended)

...and if you're in the mood for something different, I reccomend the self titled release from Black Eyes.

i wrote a bit about fugazi for the quiki in case you didn't know.

Man, I should start writing articles on my favorite bands for that.

i wish everyone would to be honest.

i don't want to say it has anything to do with me (if anything i'd say it was more down to the open minded nature many forumites here possess that sadly i can only aspire to) but since i wrote some stuff about emocore and silkworm a lot of folk have told me that they have at least given these bands a cursory listen.

good article, now I have some facts to back me up when I try and explain to my girlfriend that just because something is "emo" doesn't mean it's shit.

basically Fugazi's entire discography is quality; but Repeater is a definite highlight. Faraquet's album is pretty good too, and if you like it you could also check out Medications (2/3 of Faraquet). One of my favourite bands on Dischord is Bluetip- they're not too complex or anything, just really good dischord-type rock. "Polymer" is a hell of an album. I haven't heard the new Channels album yet, but pretty much anything with J. Robbins in it is awesome.  The Nation of Ulysses is another Dischord staple; definently worth checking out.

Dischord is actually pretty good in that you can just randomly select a band from their roster and get something good. Definently start with Fugazi though, Repeater is an excellent album.

Rites of Spring and Void. Actually, just get the 20 Years of Dischord box set. Then you can work out what you like for yourself.

I might end up doing that, then picking out some select albums to get.
