Keytars, anybody?
« on: 09 Dec 2006, 02:24 »

After a long debate, a friend of mine has bought a Keytar on Ebay, and in the course of the arguement, I was surprised how many people thought of Keytars as tacky gimmicks instead of "Pretty much the most rocking thing ever"

So I just wanted to put the question to QC.

I really like New Orleans band Mutemath and their use of keytar. The Jimmy Kimmel clip makes them look a bit silly but their live show is fantastic and the frontman's keytar usage is superb.

I can never remember if Horse The Band use keytars or not.

Those are pretty rockin'. I'd sure get one if I were rich. But my budget is tighter than a nun's... anyway... I'd totally get one if I had the money and had bought everything else I needed to buy... which is a lot.
I've strayed from the point. They're rockin'.

Yeah. That's why I don't have one, too.  I need to miraculously come into a bunch of money by winning the lottery or by some random distant relative I never knew dying or something. That would solve about 75% of my woes.

Thank you guys for restoring my faith in humanity.

Because I am talking about an entire circle of conversation attempting to convince my friend that buying a keytar was fucking ridiculous.

Sacha Baron Cohen's actually pretty good at it.  There was a clip somewhere of him on Conan playing one of the songs from Borat (as Borat), with a dueling keytar solo with some weird lady.

I always wanted one, because I wanted to be able to move around like the guitarist and bassist get to. But I also consider it somewhat gimmicky. They've evolved a bit, though, and do seem to be pretty functional now. The original ones were pretty silly.

If you're going to play a Keytar, whats the point if you're going to have it on a stand?
