Rockwiz or Spicks and Specks
« on: 08 Nov 2006, 10:25 »

ok maybe this belongs in the tv board but i'm just wondering who prefers which of the two series

for those who don't know they are both music quiz shows on australian television

spicks and specks has a light hearted look at music and rockqiz is rather full on

Spiks and Spex had the wonderfully happy Patience Hodgson (crazy chick from the Grates) on it, and i tend to get the questions more, wheras Rockkwiz had Little Birdy on it.... but i still generally prefer Rockkwiz

man this board is full of Aussies

Spicks is a racist term for hispanics, and strangely muslims in Australia.
Although Spicks and Specks is obviously an allusion to the Bee Gees song with the same title.
I was Spicks and Specks for the Adorable Miff Warhurst, and when Ross Noble or Hamish and Andy are on it's a really great show.
SandS over Rockwiz.

that slogan is a good slogan. so good, in fact, I think it should be applied to other things. like, "there's no wrong way to hit your spouse." or "there's no wrong way to commit nonconsentual sodomy."

I have never heard anyone call a Muslim a spick  :?

I've never really watched the show, because Miff has the sexiest voice, and when I saw her on TV I was disappointed she wasn't a +10 to boners mega babe. ALthough if Ross Noble is on it, I should really hit that shit up, because everything he has ever been involved with was gold. When I found out you could download all the JJJ morning shows he hosted, I creamed myself.

yeah...ross noble is brilliant

i just want to see his tv show

"Ray Martin, Wrestles a pig"

and if he manages to survive, there's a sequel

"Ray Martin, Wrestles another pig"

and it keeps going till ray martin dies

there's no downside

It's rare to hear it, but every now and then someone will crack it out, and one must understand that it's not about a mexican, or spanish person.

Furthermore, Miff is SOOO unbelievably ADORABLE and she has massive boobs, which are always a plus. I got a hug from her at the Arias, god she's cute.

The racist term is spelled with out a 'k'.

How do you have two music quiz shows?! I'm dying for some good music programming on tv.

You need Government funded channels like the ABC and SBS, those are the only two public (non pay TV) channels with anything remotely music oriented. I think  channel 10 has video hits but thats on hell early on a Saturday (well before I'm up on a weekend) and caters to the pop music, Britney Spears crowd.

We also have RAGE, which is great... Friday and Saturday they show nothing but music videos, and many of them are very good music videos, especaily when you get a good guest host on Saturday

its weird... coming from America, most Aussie TV is pretty bad... but RAGE is awesome

and amazingly only one of them plays decent music

cheers to whoever decided to replace staurday morning rage (read: 6-10 i like the 12 - 6 one) with jtv

One thing I fucking hate about Rage though is that when someone guest programs it, they play about a billion songs in a row by them at 3 or so in the morning, and that is about the time I am coming down and need some fucking variety, and most of the time I hate the bands that are Guest Programming, but they stuff they actually want to play is pretty decent, so that sucks.

Also Friday nights, being new release nights are painfully inconsistant in their quality.

I have such fond memories of Rage though, I remember the first night I ever dropped acid, Pantera were guest programming and I was in a house full of brutal art done by death and black metal fanatics, and I had never heard anything heavier than Tool.

It was a terrifying evening.

And yeah, being able to watch the ABC at 8 on a Saturday morning again is a fucking relief.

I miss Fly TV :(

Yeah but Rage is on the ABC, which is why I didn't mention it in my post. SBS used to have a music video show on Friday nights called "Alchemy" I think, from memeory it was mainly trance and Electronica stuff.

As for Rage, I think the best  I've seen is when Billy Corgan hosted it last year. So many good videos, here's the playlist http://www.abc.net.au/rage/playlist/archive/2005/20050827.htm

Radio Birdmans playlist was probably the best I can remember for a while, imo, but I have not really been able to watch rage often enough in the last year or two.
