Um, I have not been out seeing local bands in a while, but here are some of the best ones that stick in my memory
The Kidney Thieves
Skypi
I Heart Hiroshima
'Neath
Ponyloaf
Shit I know there are more, this is all I am coming up with off the top of my head, but These five bands are consistantly responsible for blowing me away, when I am typically pretty unimpressed with a lot of local music.

hey they might be overplayed and kinda annoying, but ya should mention my friends The Grates 'cause they're nice and put on a good live show
i think i pissed off I Heart Hiroshima by comparing them to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on my FasterLouder review

The Hummingbirds, Expatriate... i dunno. most of my fave Aussie bands are from Melbourne
