I'm pretty sure he did do that.  Remember, it has been something like six or seven years since the band broke up, so he's had time to do both the things you mentioned. 

About the tracks though, he's apparently working on some stuff with Jon Theodore.  I'm excited, yet a little skeptical.

Hmm, if its true it doesn't really deflect the charge or hypocrisy. "Yeah, I used to fight with the Zaptistas but I came back to work with Trent Reznor."
