Final Fantasy III DS

ScrambledGregs:
Anybody else have this??

I go back and forth between loving this game and being frustrated with it. It's got a BAD case of 8 bit era RPG non-linearity, meaning I spend an equal amount of time wondering where the hell I'm supposed to go as I do actually going through dungeons and plot points. You may call this exploration, but I call this poor game design. Dragon Quest VIII has a similar game structure, but I never felt lost in that game.

As for the Job system in this game, it's not as deep as FFV or FFT, but I quite like it. Reminds me more of FFVI, where each character had their own unique 'skill' that they could use. FFIII's classes are well balanced, since they're all useful, but some are better than other's. Speaking of which, is it just me, or are Thieves the best class for most of the game?? I've had Refia as a Thief since about hour 3, and without exploiting the game's Job leveling mechanism, she's nearly to level 99 in her job and I'm not even 30 hours in.

PROTIP: hang on to those phoenix downs!! They are extremely hard to come by in this game, and you won't have access to a revive spell for a damn long time.

Blue Kitty:
yeah, what the hell is with that.  I did not know that you can not sleep off death (which seems so obvious) this time around

really this is the kind of the game that you need to power level for
but man I am enjoying this game, really more than I have ever enjoyed a Final Fantasy game

Ulmassir:
Final Fantasy III is a great game, and I'd highly recommend it to RPG fans, but maybe not others.

I'm gonna hafta buy a DS just for this game.

I'm, like, a total FF fangirl, and have a copy of every single game released on the PSX- I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, and IX, as well as Tactics, and IPO getting the Chocobo's Dungeon games.  It just makes sense that I'd hafta buy this one.

ScrambledGregs:
Now that I'm unstuck in the game, I'm enjoying it even more than I already did. Unless the game pulls out a lot of stops, it's going to be a short one, though. I checked my game clock and I'm not even to 20 hours yet, though I get the distinct feeling I'm headed for the ending, or at least a red herring.

Right now, my party is made up of a Thief, Dragoon, Dark Knight, and White Mage--which is so fan service, but so much fun.
