Dimmukane: V0 targets 245Kbit/s and ranges between 220-260Kbit/s. I find it basically indistinguishable from 320Kbit/s CBR in 99.999% of cases.

Supersheep, 10101110: Mediacoder would work very well for what you're doing.

Brief Guide:

1. Add your files/directory (top left)
2. Choose your output directory (top right)
3. Choose the Audio tab (bottom left)
4. Set Source as Mplayer, Encoder as LAME MP3
5. Set your LAME settings (bottom right)
6. Click Start.

The speakers on my laptop are pretty crap, so I can't even tell the difference between 128 and 192, let alone anything else.
