Final Fantasy III DS

Anybody else have this??

I go back and forth between loving this game and being frustrated with it. It's got a BAD case of 8 bit era RPG non-linearity, meaning I spend an equal amount of time wondering where the hell I'm supposed to go as I do actually going through dungeons and plot points. You may call this exploration, but I call this poor game design. Dragon Quest VIII has a similar game structure, but I never felt lost in that game.

As for the Job system in this game, it's not as deep as FFV or FFT, but I quite like it. Reminds me more of FFVI, where each character had their own unique 'skill' that they could use. FFIII's classes are well balanced, since they're all useful, but some are better than other's. Speaking of which, is it just me, or are Thieves the best class for most of the game?? I've had Refia as a Thief since about hour 3, and without exploiting the game's Job leveling mechanism, she's nearly to level 99 in her job and I'm not even 30 hours in.

PROTIP: hang on to those phoenix downs!! They are extremely hard to come by in this game, and you won't have access to a revive spell for a damn long time.

yeah, what the hell is with that.  I did not know that you can not sleep off death (which seems so obvious) this time around

really this is the kind of the game that you need to power level for
but man I am enjoying this game, really more than I have ever enjoyed a Final Fantasy game

Final Fantasy III is a great game, and I'd highly recommend it to RPG fans, but maybe not others.

I'm gonna hafta buy a DS just for this game.

I'm, like, a total FF fangirl, and have a copy of every single game released on the PSX- I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, and IX, as well as Tactics, and IPO getting the Chocobo's Dungeon games.  It just makes sense that I'd hafta buy this one.

Now that I'm unstuck in the game, I'm enjoying it even more than I already did. Unless the game pulls out a lot of stops, it's going to be a short one, though. I checked my game clock and I'm not even to 20 hours yet, though I get the distinct feeling I'm headed for the ending, or at least a red herring.

Right now, my party is made up of a Thief, Dragoon, Dark Knight, and White Mage--which is so fan service, but so much fun.

OH MY GOD- I can dual-wield from the start! ^______^ heheheeheehehehe.

Hehehe! Hit combos! ^____^

Anyway. Thanks. That's all. :)

I've heard about the not-being-able-to-save thing.. how long are the dungeons usually?

Not long at all. Seriously. These are some of the shortest dungeons I've played in a Final Fantasy game ever. Even FF1's dungeons were longer and more arduous. Every single time I step into a dungeon in this game, I think "oh christ, this is going to be a long slog..." but in my experience this game requires VERY LITTLE leveling and the dungeons are not 3 hour slogs through Satan's asshole. The dungeon designs look pretty, but they're very straightforward and 'simplistic.'

I will say this, though: boss battles will fuck your day up. You can usually see them coming, thankfully, so if you're running low in spells, items, etc it's best to run back to town and go through it again. Once or twice I did fight a boss and die, which is frustrating because you feel as though you've lost progress, but as I said...the dungeons aren't that long.

PROTIP: shields are worthless in this game. Dual-wield like it's going out of style. See the game's logo?? That guy is dual wielding.

PROTIP: Trying to figure out how to crack the game's seemingly random job leveling system?? Well, it's not based on experience points, it's based on how many actions you take. So if you go back to the easier battles at the beginning of the game, have your party guard for 8 turns in a row, and then kill the enemy, you'll gain a level. Attacking, guarding, job specific abilities definitely count, but I'm not certain if using items or moving to front or back do. 8 may not be the exact number, but it seems to carry over from one battle to another.

I can explain this, if you save right before a boss that you clueless about and you for some reason have one character with 1 health..or such a state that a few fight will kill you then, if you save, then die against the boss countless times you think i have to go to an inn you try to backtrack the random battles all kill you..you're f***ed mate.

I'll add a helpful hint.  Keep a theif in the party from the start, and steal from Odin when you get the chance.  It's really the only thing worth stealing, but it's one of the best items in the game.  I won't tell you what it is . . but just that it looks pretty and is very effective. :)

God, that sounds like the tedious you'd do in FF2 (JP). Although, I have to admit to liking that game.

Hey guys, is it just me, or the final dungeon and final boss ASS RAPINGLY hard?! I mean the other bosses were no pushovers, but the combination of the long, boss filled final dungeon and REEEDICKYOULUSS final boss fucked me seven ways to sunday. This is the kind of stuff I never finish games for.

I leveled . . . well over-leveled on accident and they the last dungeon wasn't so difficult.  However, the secret boss -- he's what breaks the bank for me.

What they really need to do is make a Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for the DS and I would be set.

I just finished it yesterday; my dudes were about level 60, and I guess I leveled too much because the last boss wasn't too hard.

You want hard?  try beating it with 1 character.  I've tried, but I need to level some more to get past Leviathan
