It doesn't explicitly happen in the books but Varys does disappear from King's Landing for a time so he may well have hopped a boat somewhere else.

The Seldom Killer:
Best. Fight. Scene. Ever.

A mix of graceful, graceless, brutal, desperate, ragged and ultimately futile. I couldn't root for either side and I loved it.

Thrillho:
Yeah may as well list my thoughts.
(click to show/hide)- I have never been happy to see Stanis, ever, but I was this time. It was also one of the few times he's seemed legitimately badass.
- Bran found the dude with the third eye or something. I've never been less interested in a character arc. I think I'm more interested in fucking raisin bran than this bran.
- Brienne vs. The Hound. Both characters I like, I kinda rooted for the Hound though. I love the guy for some reason. One of the few people in this show who is actually a product of some hideous evil in his past rather than just being part of a cruel universe. Was not particularly enamoured with Aiya or however you fucking spell it for her leaving him to die. I know they had their differences but he did protect her. A lot.
- Tyrion killing Shae. Not a fan. Killing Tywin. More of a fan. Killed a lot of my sympathy for Tyrion too.

All in all, a very entertaining episode but I am increasingly realising just how unpleasant a universe this is and finding myself rooting for... well, no-one.

Well, In Tyrion's defense:
(click to show/hide)She grabbed a knife and went at him from the start.

The Seldom Killer:
(click to show/hide) - I don't buy Stanis as King and I feel like you're not really supposed to. He lacks the political savvy to rule by consent over force. I think this is one of those occasions where you're supposed to see him for his quality, as a great conventional military leader. He failed at Blackwater because he didn't plan for guerilla tactics like the use of naptha. Here beyond the Wall there are no nasty military surprises.
 - I feel like they've just been ticking over the Bran thing because they need to keep him in the frame but it isn't the story that they want to tell this season. The ending of his arc in this season strongly suggest that they'll give him a lot more airtime in the next (pun not intended)
 - He did protect her, but appeared to do it a lot for his own ends. He knew she wanted to kill him she knew that. They both understood that they would travel together as long as it was convenient. Whilst he could still protect her she couldn't forgive him and when he was close to death she couldn't give him mercy because her anger meant she couldn't give him what he wanted.
 - Tyrion? It's a repetition of that lesson that in a world where brutality is commonplace no one is free from the darker flaws of humanity.
