HBO's A Song of Ice and Fire
Schwungrad:
The last episode (5.7) felt to me a bit like
(click to show/hide)the writers were trying to incorporate as many details from the books as possible while still making sense within the framework of the changed storylines. Especially Sam/Gilly: In the books, they are taking Maester Aemon to Oldtown, he dies during the journey, and they find consolation in sex. In this episode, he dies at the Wall. Considering Gilly is the only female at the Wall, and also considering what kind of men tend to end up on the wall, it makes sense that there would be attempts to rape her, but still the whole scene feels rather forced, what with the Lupus Ex Machina and all.
I wonder how much of the interpretation "Sam gets rewarded with sex" comes from us being somehow trained to always percieve male characters as the protagonist of every scene (and the cliché that "men always want sex"). In a way, there's a symmetry to it: he asserts that he would rather let them beat him up than let them rape her, while she tells him she doesn't want him to do that again, i.e. she'd rather let them rape her than watch Sam being beaten bloody (or even dead). Both are ready to endure harm to save the other from harm. And while she rewards his display of love with the willingness to have sex despite the traumatic experience of being raped by her father, he rewards her display of love with the willingness to break his vow of chastity - a vow that he takes much more seriously than most of his brothers, because his devotion to the Night's watch and its values is the only thing left to him after the traumatic experience of being hated by his father alöl his life

That webpage (for whatever reason) about killed my laptop, but the Rawstory link was a good read. I have read the TMS one, but I'm kind of not a fan of their site.
Method of Madness:
Another good article about the matter (I don't think it's been posted yet).
