I have an AVI video file that wont play, help.
« on: 25 Jan 2007, 13:27 »

I have this episode of something downloaded, but it wont play properly.
It claims that something is missing, so it searches for updates... Notta, claims I need a Codec. So then I went out and got some codec packs, atleast four, tried all of them. Nope.

Then I went ahead and made it play the file anyway, even with what wouldnt worked. I find that I can see the video, but there's no sound.

Can anyone help me out here?

Realone player is the default player and doesn't work, K-lite is my courrent codec pack, and it's player didn't work. <--the classic player.

download gspot codec appliance and run it on your avi.

this will tell you what codec the video and audio streams are encoded in, or possibly that it's broken.

download the VLC media player and try playing the avi on that.

Also, get the hell rid of Real player.

It's porn, isn't it? Most porn is encoded in divx/xvid. Try getting the latest xvid codecs.

I'll do that, thanks.

Also, it's not porn, it's an episode of Batman TAS. Nice try anyway. XD

If gspot codec appliance doesn't work, try downloading combined community codec pack it's got most every codec you'll need to play something.

Uninstall all codecs you have installed manually, then go and download the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack.  Ensure you install gspot and media player classic.  Two of the best media-related tools.  Reboot (if only to be sure).  Should be able to play every media file available, except possibly for FLV.

I've got a program actually called AVIcodec, but you can put any file into it that doesn't work, select the part of the file thats not working (sound, video, entire file) and it will dl the codec for you.

I am gonna have to come down against the K-lite codec pack in favor of the Combined Community Codec Pack.

Make sure to uninstall K-lite if you install another codec pack.

Is it actually an avi file or is it another kind of container? I ask because a lot of animated programs come in matryoshka containers (.mkv extensions).
