Phil: wants to mosh
« on: 30 Jan 2007, 16:47 »

Okay, I've searched, and I didn't find this, so are there any suggestions about bands I can make a one-man mosh to? I'm talking screaming, from guitar and person, and lots of anger, preferably violent, not righteous, unless that means kicking something really hard.

Any of the punkier thrash metal bands would work great for this: Testament, Exodus, Anthrax, Municipal Waste, Suicidal Tendencies, etc.

Violence - check
Angry - check
Screaming -check

You need to get some War metal (Blackened Thrash)

Desaster "Tyrants of the Netherworld"
Bestial Warlust "Vengeance War till Death"
Destroyer 666 "Violence is the Prince of this World" and "Unchain the Wolves"
Atomizer - "The Only Weapon of Choice" (Thier song "When I Die, I Wanna Die Violently" is pretty much the war metal anthem...)
Gospel of the Horns - "A Call To Arms"

Also make sure you check out the following Thrash classics, full of violence and killer riffs.

Sodom - "Agent Orange"
Kreator - "Pleasure to Kill", "Coma of Souls"
Destruction - "Eternal Devastation"
Overkill - "Feel the Fire"
Exodus - "Bonded by Blood"

yeah but there are also a few bands that call themselves war metal which are blackened power metal and you might want to avoid those

*EDIT* i take that back that's actually battle metal...(arghh stupid subgenres)

Circle Takes The Square.

I'm trying to come up with something like this.. but right now my current fascination is having my guitar tuned EAAAAE.

More: Stormtroopers of Death, Skindred (I'm serious there), The Count Nosferatu Kommando, Hypnosia, Hobb's Angel of Death, Ministry (Especially songs like 'Thieves'), more I can't think of.

Dillinger Escape Plan are my one man moshing band.

Also: Converge, KEA era Metallica, and of course Meshuggah's Nothing album. Especcially Glints Collide. Damn I love that song.

Stormtroopers of Death

As much as I love Scott Ian, I've still never heard SOD. Does this make me a bad person?

Shane, how is Circle Takes The Square a mosh-band?  I mean, they're great and all - "As The Roots Undo" is one of my favorite albums - but if I were to try to bring the proverbial mosh to CTTS, I'd end up just standing there looking confused.

Phil, I suggest you try some Ringworm, maybe a little Blacklisted, some old-school American Nightmare, or The Hope Conspiracy.  The new HopeCon cd is hells of anger and violence.

I've gone off ministry a bit since when I first listened to them, but I still can't deny that certain songs are fucking awesome. Thieves brings the mosh so hard that some clubs in the states banned it, and others would only play it as the last song of the night. SOD have a perhaps MORE moshtastic cover on 'Live at Budokan'.

Also, they'd replaced all the synth lines with guitar. I leave you to imagine how FUCKING HEAVY 'Psalm 69' was.
