Brutal.

So, I had heard from someone on the QC facebook group that there's a few metalheads on here.

This is good, as I've been seeking to expand my library. I'm mainly into melodic/Swedish/gothenburg stuff, but am open to anything that has at least some degree of technical skill involved somewhere. Oh, and it doesn't sound like dick. Through the Eyes of the Dead is a good example of dick.

Anyways, here's what I have. I only post this so that you can draw off it and recommend other bands, not to show you my gold-plated, spinnered-out e-penis.

Lordi, Black Sabbath, DevilDriver, Korpiklaani, KMFDM, Samael, Static-X, Dark Tranquility, Arch Enemy, Callenish Circle, Cradle of Filth, Opeth, Scar Symmetry, Soilwork, In Flames, Children of Bodom, Sonata Arctica, Pelican, Russian Circles, Minibosses, Old-School Metallica(Master of Puppets era), Kreator, If Hope Dies, MegaDeth, Pantera, and lastly, Slayer.

Any suggestions? All of the above provides a good amount of material to listen to, but I'd like to move from a "decent" size collection, to an "earth-shatteringly massive" collection.

Isis, Sunn O))), Boris, Nevermore, Mastodon, Areyon, Strapping Young Lad (though I personally don't dig them they'll probably be right up your alley), Into Eternity (ditto) and Testament. That's all the metal I really dig, and that's pretty obvious because it's mostly relatively big-name stuff that troo grim metalheads have recommended to me.

Pelican are pretty cool live. One of them was wearing a Dio shirt and instantly won my respect forever.

Above all else, get "Empiricism" by Borknagar. If the first track doesn't rock your face off, you're probably some kind of communist. If you like that, "Epic" is good too.

A few other CDs I've been diggin' recently:

Mayhem - "De Mysteriis dom Sathanas"
Celtic Frost - "Morbid Tales" & "Monotheist"
Finntroll - "Jaktens Tid"
Ensiferum - "Iron"
My Dying Bride - I'm tempted to say get the whole discography but it's pretty big, so start with "Turn Loose The Swans" then pick up "Like Gods Of The Sun", "The Dreadful Hours", "The Angel And The Dark River", and "34.788% Complete" in any order if you like that one at all.
Anorexia Nervosa - "Drudenhaus"
Mors Principium Est - "The Unborn"
The Haunted - "The Haunted Made Me Do It", "One Kill Wonder"

Some stuff I'd recommend checking out:

Darkane - all 4 are pretty damn good
Terror 2000 - Terror for Sale
Amon Amarth - With Oden on Our Side (Big step up from previous I think)
Bloodbath - both
T?r - Eric the Red and Ragnarok are both excellent, if you like power or prog
Decapitated - especially Organic Hallucinosis
Face Down - The Will to Power (if you liked Marco Aro era The Haunted, the guy still sounds like a chainsaw ripping into a baby)
Himsa - Courting Tragedy and Disaster (despite the goddamn scene kids who listen to them, the music is actually really good I think)
Wintersun

Again props for Nevermore and Testament. I really hope Testament does another album, The Gathering was terrific.

Someone mentioned Cryptopsy, and althpug I like them a fair bit myself they're not really like anything on your list, more brutal/technical. If you decide to check them out and happen to like them, try Necrophagist or Anata too. Possibly decapitated after that.

I'm not too really into the whole gothenburg scene, but it sounds like you would really enjoy Dissection. You also mention Korpiklaani, so if you want more folk metal check out Finntrol,  Skyclad and Eluviete first. After that you could move on to Turisas and Trollfest.

Most of the really good stuff has already been mentioned, but I'm going to throw in Exodus. Their newest, Shovel Headed Kill Machine, is brutal as hell.

Power Metal doesn't really sound like your thing, but both Blind Guardian and Iced Earth have a particular brand of heavy power metal that I really dig.

Lordi are about as metal as Avril Lavigne.

*correction* as metal as avril lavigne is punk

i always get in trouble when i recomend stuff...why do people hate me so..anyway the best way to get out of nu-metal listening habits (which you deifinatly have) is thorugh the course of NWOBHM (at least that's how i did it)

so Angel Witch, Holocaust, Iron Maiden, first two priest albums (get the rest later on anyway but they're not NWOBHM),  Tygers of Pan Tang, Diamond Head...the white album is a must, Witch Finder General, Venom (very satanic....or not get...nothing past black metal in my opinion)...other than that as above

I like any metal that doesn't have too much monotonic yell-growl vocals.

You'd probably like Augury.  Pretty technical stuff (Etienne Gallo, their drummer, is pretty insane, they also have Dominic "Forest" Lapointe, one of the more famous bassists in the Quebecois metal scene), but still very melodic, and certainly doesn't sound like dick.  The problem is finding their stuff.  I found it on soulseek before I found it anywhere else.
