Lordi: Not GWAR Wannabees
« on: 15 Mar 2007, 19:36 »

I've heard tell that Lordi is going to be out here in sunny Southern California, and it sparked something in my empty head. I thought to myself, "How many people shirk Lordi simply because they dress up in a similar fashion as GWAR...?"
So I asked people at my school. Now, keep in mind, a bunch of SoCal kids aren't...well, smart. So the best response I got was, "Are they a local band?"
"No, they are from Finland"
"...is that south of here?"

I shit you not.

But I digress.

Who has heard of Lordi, and/or better yet been to a show? I'm curious because I'm getting excited for a concert, and I do not want to be let down by a lame performance.

And kudos to you.
Because that song is cool.
Overly corny.
But still good.

I've seen Lordi couple of times here in Finland and I can tell you: Their live show kick's ass!

Their live show's not that great to be honest, they're far too concerned with theatrics and costume changes, not enough energy in the music. And when I saw them headlining they played for about 30 minutes.

Lordi, good stuff.

Unfortunately alot of people only know of their existance cuz of Eurovision (which Lordi won!), and i'm one of those people, lol. But nonetheless. Brilliant stuff - normally i don't lean towards the harder stuff, but Lordi is the right balance. :)

I would go to a Lordi concert just for the theatrics.
I watched thier Eurovision perfomance adn very nearly pissed myself laughing.

Lordi's awesome in their own way and seperate from GWAR. I love horror movies so a horror-based rock group (that's not Rob Zombie) is pretty killer in my book. I absolutely love GWAR and I definitely dig on Lordi. Who cares if they both wear costumes? It's like having your cake and eating it.

I'd love to see Lordi live though I doubt they'd compare to GWAR. I've seen GWAR three times now and their show is one of the best I've ever been to. So much energy, fun and fake blood, semen and bile.

Also, Lordi's video's are frigin' killer. Love Blood Red Sandman

I'm not sure why people expect every band that wears a costume to measure up to GWAR.

I certainly don't expect every Christian to measure up to Jesus.
I don't expect every American to measure up to George Washington.
I don't expect every film student to measure up to Hitchcock.
I don't expect every Slint-band to measure up to Slint. (tommy it is fun to type and say "slint-band" good work)

Now when I say that, the few people who know who Lordi are immediately compare them to GWAR. It is ridiculous, I know. They are two completely different bands. But some people see that they have costumes, and shrug them off because they think, "Oh, Lordi is just copying GWAR." And that was point in it.
Also, bitching at me about the difference between them won't do any good.
I listen to both bands.
Hurr.

Well I have only really heard of Lordi because of Eurovison and subsequent TV apperences. I'm glad a non-purely pop artist won Eurovision, I would class them as metal but just barely some of the time. I can listen to them but not to the extent that I would go see them live or but their CD.

I'm pretty sure they did a decent job labeling themselves, "Hard Rock"
Because, you know, 'Hard Rock Halleluja'
And all that jazz.
