Good live music in NYC
« on: 29 Jan 2007, 18:51 »

Hey I'm looking for a bar that has good live music in New York City.  Ideally manhatten.  It would be nice if it were cheap too.  Can anybody help me out?

The Knitting Factory gets some pretty decent acts.  If you're willing to cross the river, Maxwell's in Hoboken is pretty good too.

i would swing by, or at least look up, the bowery ballroom. it's a very cool bar/lounge/concert venue that puts on a ton of great (and very cheap) shows. it's definetly one of my favorite venues. well worth checking out.

If Brooklyn isn't too far out of your way, the North Six can be good at times

What.  Kind.  Of.  Music.

Bar 55 has good cheap jazz.
Cake Shop has pastries in the front room, sometimes indie in the back room.
Bowery Ballroom, Knitting Factory, Webster Hall, and the Warsaw are all venues with bars that do a lot of indie shows.
Birdland has big band that you cannot afford.
Jazz Standard, Village Vanguard, the bar at Jazz at Lincoln Center have excellent jazz that you might be able to afford if you save up.
Iridium has Les Paul.

She's dead, Mer.  Sorry.  Reopening as "The Music Hall of Williamsburg".  Yes, everyone thinks the name sucks.  It may or may not have been purchased by the new drummer for the Fiery Furnaces.

Our dearly departed Moiche

WUT NO MORE MOICHE

Shit I actually didn't notice. But that site is awesome, I'd love it if there were such a thing as a massive intertr0n database for such things.
