It's suprising how few people actually know about it...  although that tends to keep their lineup good because everyone who knows about it hates shitty pop bands. I wanted to go last year but couldn't.  I'll be damned if I don't make it this year.

It seems like a lot but I went to a 4 day festival in CA last year and it was a blast. I could have stayed longer.

I had a really good time last year, and I met a dude who lives in Manchester and said we could party at his house for a couple days before the festival, so I am pretty psyched. I actually had a Dream about Bonnaroo last night.

At the same time, I'm aprehensive because I am 95% sure MTV bought the rights to the festival, and the fact that MMJ is not playing this year is a bad sign, considering they've played every single Bonnaroo to this point. A lot of the hippies I talked to last year said the atmosphere was getting shitty even then, so I'm skeptical. Either way, I'ma wait till I see it on their site.

Those were hippies though. Of course they don't like it. Each year there have been less jam bands and more indie rockers. That's great, in my mind. Not so great for hippies though.

And I wouldn't count MMJ out yet (unless they've come out and said they aren't playing it which I could have missed). I'm sure there will be more additions to the lineup considering there have been at least 80 bands the last 2 or 3 years and this initial lineup doesn't have but 70 or so.

I did the Bonnaroo thing back in '04.  Saw a bunch of great bands -- Dylan, David Byrne, Wilco, Gov't Mule, etc -- but the combination of the weather -- the first day was crazy Southern Heat, and then it rained hard the next two days -- the crowds -- i think that was the first year people died -- and the venue -- you've got 80,000 people and the only way in or out is a single two-lane road that bisects the festival site -- made me say never again.  The music is awesome, it's just not my scene.

I totally dig the line up but I feel like Bonaroo got totally jacked from the dirty, hippy jam-banders who brought it to life in the first place.

I was there last year.  The music was great, but one thing I learned is if I try to stand up for about ten hours straight for three consecutive days, my lower back hurts like hell.  I'll probably try to catch the bands I like in separate shows this year.

I'm stoked about this coming March, because winter before last I was seeing a show about once a week until I kind of ran out of money.  Now I can finally afford to start going to show again.  Already have tickets to the Thermals, Decemberists, TV On The Radio, and Lucinda Williams.

I'll probably only go to Bonnaroo if a bunch of my friends want to go or I meet a girl who wants to go.

i was going to go to bonnaroo but i decided the ticket prices/the distance from where i live didn't really justify it. i don't want to see a huge number of the bands playing anyway. i too am just going to catch individual shows. these next few months have some great concerts coming up: tv on the radio, the arcade fire, explosions in the sky, do make say think, sunset rubdown, tapes 'n tapes, kimya dawson. i'm going to see all of those and am therefore close to broke but i think i'll have a better collective experience at these concerts than i would at bonnaroo.

Another reason to prefer individual shows:  There aren't fifty smokers within five feet of you at all times that you can't get away from.  And you can eat before you go to an individual concert, and thus do not have to pay ten dollars for anorexic proportions of food.

In clubs you have room to raise and lower your arms, and small openings to wedge through if you want to get out.  You tend to have at least 2-3 inches around you.  The Radiohead crowd at Bonnaroo was about three times as thick as any club crowd I've ever been in -- and I go there like half an hour early to get close to the stage.  It was also about twice as bad as the Woodstock 99 crowd near the stage during Korn at the height of their popularity.  I could hardly even hear the band.  I imagine it was almost as bad as a Beatles concert in '66.
