Black Snake Moan

Will:
I should be going sometime this week to see this movie. I'm very much looking forward to it.

Snakes On A Plane, anyone?

ThePQ4:
Snakes on a Plane didn't incite my interest. The title gave away to much

Lukeypoo:
I caught the tail end of some MTV thing about this movie. The director said Black Snake Moan was an unexplained feeling of dread or anxiety that he and his wife dubbed 'the black snake moan'. I am paraphrasing though.

The movie's about Samuel Jackson finding Christina Ricci on his road after a wild night. Ever since her man (timberlake) left for the war her life went down hill and she turns into a slut. While saving Ricci, SJ comes to grips with his own demons. That's what I've taken from the reviews I've read thus far. My local cinema isn't playing it, I'm going to have to commute for this one. Which I intend to do.

KID:
I couldn't decide if I wanted to see it. So I haven't yet. It looks very entertaining.

She's not a nymphomaniac or a slut. If you watch the movie and come out saying that, you didn't really get it. SLJ's character didn't so much "reform" Ricci's character so much as cure her. She was sick, and as a consequence, she did a lot of desperate things to get rid of the pain (or dread or whatever you want to call it). It actually reminded me a lot of that character in Wallace's Infinite Jest (PGOAT, maybe, but I think it was another woman), and how she smoked crack just to get rid of the inexplicable horrible feeling that overcame her when she was straight.

The movie did a very good job in duplicating that sense of dread/impending doom by having it overhang nearly every scene, but having it turn out to be ok in the end, as long as you stuck it out.
