Favorite Animes?

Choco:
I have seen many series in the past. Probably not a fraction of what other people have seen, but I'd like to think that I've seen a fair share amount of anime. I have downloaded probably around 800gigs worth of fan subbed anime via bittorent.

Some that have stood out to me are...

-Trigun. For those who have seen the series, there is little to explain about this.

-Full Metal Alchemist. One of my all-time-favorites. I followed it religiously while it was coming out in Japan and being fansubbed. I literally almost cried tears of unimaginable sadness when it got licensed. Almost...

-Full Metal Panic/Fumoffu/TSR: Story line is very involved and gripping, and animation is striking. Fumoffu is very light hearted and hilarious.

-Shuffle!:  Based off of a Hentai dating sim in Japan. The actual series offers lots of fan-service with its cliche harem style story of 5 girls going after one guy and slice of life high school story, but the second half of the series is what really made the the series as a whole pop up. After a happy go lucky story for 11 episodes, we find out each girl's "deep dark secret" of sorts which adds quite a bit of drama to the story.

-School Rumble/The Second Semester: Great anime. Very funny slice of life high school anime. The main characters all have different relationship problems, often intertwining with each other.

-The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi: Lots of laughs and beautifully animated. The order of the episodes is completely out of whack and not in chronological order. But after watching the "last" episode of the series, you can start to see where everything fits in. I've watched different episodes various times, and I always seem to find things that would connect that episode to different ones. In any case, go watch this.

-Samurai Champloo: Mix of traditional Japanese history and Hip-Hop. I liked this series very much for its use of the elements of Hip-Hop since I grew up exposed to them.

-Prince of Tennis: Some of you will probably ridicule me for this one, but I really liked it. Although MANY of the things they do are completely unrealistic, it just makes you think "what if?" It is the only series over 50 episodes [178 in total for the series, a movie, and an OVA series] that I've ever had the patience to keep up with. It does become a bit "DBZ style" in the later episodes with the completely over dramatization of the feeling they put in their special moves, but hey, it's a bit more fun that way.

-Cowboy Bebop: Enough said.

-Yakiyake! Japan: Anime about a kid trying ot make a national bread for Japan, called Japan. It is a pun, using the Japanese word for bread, "pan" and the name of the country. Clever, right? The series is actually very exciting and filled with drama. Highly recommended.

That's all I can think of as of right now, perhaps I'll add more when I think of them/not as lazy.

Wow, have tastes ever been so varied? Oh, wait, we're human...I forgot.

The anime I like?
Probably:
Cowboy Bebop
FLCL
Excel Saga
Miyazaki
Ghost in the Shell Movies
.hack//sign
Perfect Blue (was pretty fun?)
Ninja Scroll (The movie.)
I can't say much for Fullmetal Alchemist, Samurai Champloo, or Trigun though.
Okay, fine, Trigun.

lb969:
Slayers, Slayers Next, Slayers Try. - Personal favorites. Awesome series. DNDish with plenty of comedy.

Ghost in the shell (All) - Just a great anime. More adult oriented.

Tenchi Muyo GXP - Funny, with great Tenchi antics but oddly does not feature Tenchi himself.

Trigun - Classic anime. Nuff said.

Cowboy Bebop - Nother classic.

NGE - Ending gets a bit dark for me, but if you skip the last 2 episodes and go straight to the movie, its really good.

Ruroni Kenshin - Awesome.

Outlaw Star - Really good.

Fruits Basket - More cerebral than most anime. More emotional than comedic.

YuYu Hakusho - Decent anime with a decent story.

Dragon Ball (all) - Dragonball. Nuff said.

Kiddy Grade - Interesting series. Decent plot.

Baki the Grappler - Beat em up series. Boy trains, boy fights, boy wins. Boy has issues with parents.

Blue Gender - Earth besieged by uber-bugs. Mecha fighting bugs. Whee!

Galaxy Railways wasn't too bad, FLCL is good, Inuyasha is worth a rent.

That'd be Prince of Tennis.

And just to get this out there, I have a deep hatred for English dubs of anime. I hear there are good dubs out there, but most voice actors just don't match the character that I remember from watching the anime in Japanese. They take out most, if not all, feeling in the character's voice. I got my start on anime watching it with subtitles. I've gotten used to it like that, and that's how I like it. The only anime I've watched dubbed in English in its entirety was Ronin Warriors, if any of you remember it. And this was only to relive childhood memories. I love that anime, but I just wish I could get it in the original Japanese.

Sorry for the rant, I'll go back to lurking now.

Will:
I enjoy Cowboy Bebop quite a bit, both the movie and the show. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust I thought was very enjoyable. But without a doubt, my FAVORITE is pretty much everything I've seen by Miyazaki. I just finished watching Howl's Moving Castle which was pretty stellar. Spirited Away is one of those movies that, whenever I am having one of those days that is just utter dogshit, I pop it in and by the time it's done I feel 1000 times better about everything.
