Make your own Chinese Democracy
« on: 02 Oct 2007, 13:51 »

Hey guys, shall we all make unlistenable, sloppy noise albums called 'Chinese Democracy' then put them on bit torrent?

Yeah so this was posted about a minute ago but I adore the idea and so I'm doing it. I encourage all of you to do it too!

I mean I guess it doesn't have to be noise but noise is more fun.

I think doing an album might mean a couple of people will do this.

Instead I say we collaborate on a record under an assumed name.

I'd love to be involved on this, and because my notebook is finally going to be fixed/replaced, it could happen.

Guys, what happens if people *like* it? Do we fail? Do we succeed? Succeed at failing? Fail at failing?
I don't know which would be more embarrassing.

I hadn't thought about it, but it would probably be easier if everyone collaborated on one album

Sucess is defined only if Axl Rose releases it as his own

Is it possible to make a noise record without knowing anything about music?

Because I am in if that is the case.

So, how are we going to collaborate on this?  I could scream over Skype at someone who was recording it or something.

Not knowing anything about music will probably help you make noise music

Also I am thinking it would probably be easier if everyone did a track but I will totally try and figure out skype and record you screaming at me

How does one go about making noise music? I have a friend who lives in a recording studio and makes noise music for kicks in his spare time but I feel that would be cheating somehow.

All right. I've now got THREE submissions of sorts.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/gdld7k

New "song" specifically for this project

http://www.sendspace.com/file/rbspsr

A small sampling type of thing. Feel free to use as you see fit

http://www.sendspace.com/file/iod1xg

Another small thing that is a little longer that I have had around for a long time

What I used for this was a MIDI sequencer, Anvil Studio; a software MIDI synth, MIDIG; and Audacity, an audio editor.

What I used for this was a MIDI sequencer, Anvil Studio; a software MIDI synth, MIDIG; and Audacity, an audio editor.

Audacity has probably everything you need to create noise and a simple sine wave or two.

Posted under the assumed name "Unfortunates," which I use for any noise recording I do.

It's titled after a confirmed track on the G'n'R record.

Apologies for the double post, but I finished my track. I'm really proud of it, not because its any good (It's terrible), but because I managed to turn the opening piano riff for "Good Day Sunshine" into a drone riff.

I'm taking all the strings off my guitar and plugging it into my amp, see what I can record. That'll be my contribution.

So these took very little time.  Before I continued and started doing the fancy stuff (which would take more time, obviously), what does everyone think about this idea?  Should the cover art be more Chinese-ish, like with Mao on it or something?  Or perhaps more subtle than that, and use a stronger shade of red?
Maybe it should be more Democracy themed?  Dunno what we could do there.
Perhaps it should be more random and less-produced (which, unless done in paint, would probably take more production than just doing it regular style) with an emphisis on noisyness?
We should discuss before I waste time.

Here are preliminaries:

Above is a JPEG of what I've got so far.

This is a GIF with 4 colors.  I thought using low color amounts would make it not only more distinct, but fits with the idea of low-quality and noise.

OR, if someone else has a better idea, we should use it.  I'm just doing this because I have the time...
