Revision music
« on: 10 May 2007, 16:30 »

So, A levels are coming up in less than a month, so i've hopped on the old revision train in an attempt to make something of my life. But i need some suggestions for background music that aids, rather than hinders, a productive atmosphere. To give an idea,my current revision mix usually consists of:

  • [Sigur Ros/li]
    • Mountain Goats
    • Broken Social Scene
    • The Postal Service
    • Sometimes Jack Johnson if i've exhausted all other options

So, what do you guys listen to/recommend when doing revision?

    Ta much!

Usually chilled electronic stuff that's pleasant to listen to, and not so backgroundy I completely tune it out, but not too busy either. Recently I've been loving a 3CD set I got with:
Concise - Revive
Flaque - Mindscapes
X_Dynamics - Regular Loader Routine
..ambient pop that functions well as a study aid. Stars Of The Lid, Synaesthesia and Biosphere work well for this.

Otherwise, Detektivbyran and Samuel Jackson Five are excellent music for doing anything to - you can either concentrate on how excellent they are or sideline them and focus on something else.

I estimate 90% of my college papers were written to the tune of "The Bends"; it got so that I couldn't even get started on a paper until I fired up MediaPlayer and got that disc going.

Something with no lyrics. Listening to words is only going to jumble your head when you're trying to revise and remember other words.

I'm a fan of electronic-y instrumental stuff for studying.  I usually listen to Ratatat, Boards of Canada, Secret Mommy, RJD2, Prefuse 73 (Check out his collab. with The Books)

I'm like that with Cocteau Twins "Blue Bell Knoll". I think I listened to it for nearly all my 3rd year assignments.

I also tend to listen to Brian Eno's stuff for a change, sometimes.

For my last couple of written tests I used Miles Davis - Kind of Blue. It worked wonderfully. To my ears it is boring, soothing and reasonably quiet.
I am going to use it for the real exams too.
