I saw Ibanez's 2009 catalog a few weeks back. Every guitar looked the same to me.

Shane i have to warn you, Everyone Iv'e talked to about building guitars, even from pre-made parts, has said that there is a good chance it will be just as expensive, at least on your first try. Even with a bunch of bolt-on parts, it's not just an investment of money, but of time and more importantly skill, which may or may not take a few tries to get right. That being said, it still seems like a wholly worthwhile pursuit, and there's a good chance it will come out fine the first try.

on that note, a while ago the TDPRI forums had a $100 telecaster challenge. The rules were simple: make a tele in a month for a hundred dollars or less. Don't count the price of lumber. The results were awesome. here's a good one:

I have built a lot of guitars, and my average price to build now is about $400 a pop.  I could probably shave about a hundred bucks off that if I wanted to, but I'm not an excessively cheap person.

When I first started and was having to buy tools and things... I was up over $600 per instrument.

Seeing that the Fenders I'd rather build clones of run about $1000-1200 now, not bad.

50% off is a bargain no matter which way you slice it.

Fuck me I am glad I bought my Jag before the price increase.
