Ballard:
So I was talking to Shane about this.
Someone's offered me a 1993 Olympic White Squier Strat in place of money to give them guitar lessons. I want to take it and mod the shit out of it- possibly turn it into a VOX Teardrop. Ideas?
Radical AC:
Depends on the quantity of lessons you plan on giving. I'd say 4-6 weeks at half an hour a week for that sounds about right. I'm always down for modding cheap guitars, but I've never really done much body modification to them (and by much I mean any)
Doesn't VOX still sell the teardrop guitar? Does anyone know how they compare to the vintage ones?
And back to that Supro Dual Tone - I know Supro still makes them, would anyone know how they compare to Eastwoods model, and/or to the original Res-o-glass models? I know a new actual Supro runs ~$2000 and the Eastwood is $600.
Ballard:
VOX doesn't make guitars at all anymore. I think they've reissued the Brian Jones model specifically but I'm not too interested, particularly because Phantom Guitar Works makes great re-issues at a better price.
If I'm gonna get a real VOX Teardrop I'll get a vintage one.
I didn't mean ideas on the value of the guitar. I meant ideas on what I can do with it and whether or not it's worth giving lessons for at all when I can be earning money instead from other people.
Radical AC:
I was referring to THESE unless I'm mistaken.
I'm not sure to tell you what to do with it unless I know what you want. Personally I'd like to put some Red and Blue LACE pickups in a Strat, or preferably a Tele. Honestly you are probably better off charging for lessons. You are going to be spending more money than the guitar is worth modding it, and not getting any money for the work you would be doing in the mean time.
imapiratearg:
Eugene, do you have any first-hand experience with Eastwood guitars? I am kind of thinking about getting a Hi-Flier copy someday.
