What, in your opinion, is the scariest film ever made?

You thought Alien and Aliens were suspense movies? Well there is the whole "where'd it go" thing and who's chest will it pop out next, but then, bam, there is a tail popping out of your chest, which then tears you in half, or one of them rips your face off. It's more horror action sci-fi then horror suspense. Besides, Aliens is the proud owner of the greatest cat fight ever.

And I forgot to mention the original The Omen earlier. Good good good movie. Have not seen the remake, though, and probably won't.

Johnny C:
it's "suspense" god damn it

No, Aliens was a sci-fi horror action flick.  Alien was a sci-fi suspence action flick.

Alien wasn't scary at all.  Much like Independence Day wasn't scary.  I will admit to jumping the first few times I saw the chest popping thing, much like the "suit" opening in ID4.

So which of these examples do you think Alien is closer to?

6th Sense-ish, but personally I would say closer to ID4.

This being said, I have realized I haven't seen Alien in over a decade.  I'll rent it this weekend, or the next and re-evaluate my assesment.

Man, alien scared the shit out of me. I thought aliens was complete shit.

Cabinet of dr. Caligari, there is a scary ass movie- i always find the old silent movies creepy, the orignal Nosferatu, or at least the first half hour is fucked up.

Felix_:
Honorable mention for John Carpenter's 'The Thing'.
