Well, the kid was only seven. At that age, a lot of kids take damn near anything their parents say at face value. The mother was found in an upstairs bedroom, presumably, his dad told him she went out of town or something.

My guess is he killed the wife in some domestic dispute deal. Spent the next day processing what he had done, at which point he decided to kill himself and the kid rather than go to jail and have the child orphaned.

I'm curious on what your source is on his wife being reported dead first. Just wikipedia?

Frankly, I'm more disturbed by the reports that other wrestlers told the WWE that he had texted them with disturbing messages on Sunday, and the WWE didn't see the need to contact the police until Monday.
I don't get that at all.
I guess the question in my mind is: Did Benoit really need to die? If he killed himself on Monday, and the police had gone over there on Sunday night, he might still be alive. I mean, the wife and son would have still been beyond help - but maybe he at least would still be alive, and able to tell us why he did this. Maybe not, but maybe.
It's a moot point now at best, but oh well...
