I quite like the new record, and i don't at the same time. I like the new sound and i miss my old AiH. I love the female vocals, but the dude's Brock impression annoys me a lot. I wish they didn't sound so much like Talking Heads, but Remain In Light is one of the most fantstic albums ever, so i don't mind too much.

I quite like the new record, all the while missing the older AiH sound. That doesn't stop the new one from sounding pretty fantastic upon a listen and a half though.

Who's Brock?

When I saw these guys live around the time of the first album they did a version of the Cure's Close To Me which seemed super fitting...

Heart It Races has reminded me of another song since the first time I heard it, but I couldn't put my finger on it until today.

Whoa, this album is totally not what I was expecting. It's still pretty good, but it's not like their other albums at all. I have a feeling once I get over that it'll grow on me.

Live, LIVE!!!

The album was officially released, at least here, on Saturday, so I figure this is a good time to revisit an old thread.

I've only listened to the album a couple of times, but I enjoy it and can easily see it growing on me with repeated listens. That said, it has the same air of not quite reaching its potential that their previous two albums had: I like those albums, and this one, but they're not quite all they could be. They each have several amazing moments and at least as many moments that fall agonisingly short of being amazing. It's good to see the band developing their sound, though.

I don't really understand the comments about their "new" sound and their "old" sound, vis-a-vis this album: Fingers Crossed and In Case We Die really don't sound very much like each other at all, so I don't think anyone can really claim there's a consistent sound that Architecture in Helsinki are now deviating from.

As for Cameron Bird's singing, based on the gig I saw he's decided to sing on record the same way he sings live: I saw him performing songs from In Case We Die with this exact same singing style two years ago. Based on that, I'm predicting they'll really rip into these new songs in a live setting.

Incidently, this is pretty much what the band said in some interview on the radio. I'm all for it, personally.

Man, I'm glad I am not the only one that was thinking that same thing about the B52's. During "Hold Music" I swear the next line is going to be "Love shack!" but it never is. And I don't even much like the B52's.

Overall, I have really enjoyed the new album.

Honestly, I have never really been able to get into them very much, but people on Oink are saying this is their worst album yet, so its probably worth checking out.

Although they are one of those bands that despite being unmistakably Australian, they never seem to tour up here, or if they do I just completely miss all news about it.

I would go so far as to say that In Case We Die is one of my favorite albums of the last half decade or so. I listened to the fucking thing constantly when it came out, and I still do from time to time. Does anybody else think that it sounds a bit like Blueberry Boat in terms of that hyperactive-pop-music-mixed-with-prog-rock vibe??

It's vaguely Blueberry Boatish but not nearly as good. The same spastic pop stylings are present in both but Fiery Furnaces are much more adept at pulling it off and a lot more interesting to listen to. Don't get me wrong, I think AiH are a lot of fun. They put on a really enjoyable live show and are great for impromptu dance parties and the like. They're nice to listen to and I don't quite get all the hatred for the new album. It's no masterpiece to be sure but as far as the genre goes I think it's pretty good.

Except I dunno, I think I "like" the album in a kind of gimmicky, "oh hey, they sound like Talking Heads now" kind of way. I've only really listened to the album a couple of times and I guess I can't really get past that initial thought. It sounds a bit forced, and I don't want them to be forcing anything when they already have an awesome sound of their own to explore.

I love AiH, but I can see why a lot of people don't like them. 'It'5 Five' sounds kind of like the theme song to a children's television show. (In a good way, though).

I saw AiH live. They're fun to watch on stage, with all their bizarre instruments. I think they used a lunchbox hanging on a wire from a pipe as a drum.

Upon one listen, I reeeeeeally like the album....as much as I liked the first two Architecture in Helsinki albums, at LEAST. I am pretty much a fan of spazzy, danceable pop in all of its permutations so really, as long as AiH don't go Coldplay on me I think I'll love whatever they do.

Love the new album. It takes all the best parts of In Case We Die and builds on them. I relistened to most of the Brick trying to figure out where all these Talking Heads/David Byrne references are coming from and still haven't really figured it out. As far as I can tell, Places Like This sounds no more or less like Talking Heads than the previous two LPs. Are there particular Talking Heads songs that are similar?

I saw them live a couple of weeks ago. They looked really bored, which was bizarre considering the music coming out of them.
