Title more or less says it all.

I enjoy Masters of The Universe, but that's the only Hawkwind I've got, i'm afraid.

Acquire Hawkwind albums in this approximate order:

1: Doremi Fasol Latido
2: In Search of Space
3: The Space Ritual Alive
4: Warrior on the Edge of Time
5: Hall of the Mountain Grill
6: Live Seventy Nine
7: Quark, Strangeness and Charm
8: Sonic Attack
9: Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music
10: Hawkwind
11:  PXR5
12: Levitation
13: Choose Your Masques
14: The rest in any order you please, really.

Somewhere along the way you'll want to pick up some compilations along this route, as depending on which versions of which albums you acquire, you might not have the songs 'Motorhead' or 'Urban Guerilla', and you might not have the single version of 'Silver Machine'

Right, another band I've been meaning to get into is Sonic Youth. I already have Daydream Nation, which is obviously amazing - just reading about this band's albums and antics and stuff is an inspiration to me and has led to me writing a lot of stuff for my band and to the improvisational epic we played at our first gig.

So where do I go from here? I like it when bands use alternate tunings, dissonant chords, lengthy pieces and I know that's something this band does a lot, so what album to go to after Daydream? Do I go straight to Goo, seeing as that's the next one? Or do I go to whatever that one is that has 'Diamond Sea' on it, since that song is about 20 minutes long and seems like my kind of track?

P.S. I've ordered Doremi Fasol Latido, which has 'Urban Guerilla' as a bonus track on it.

Is Goo from the Geffen era?  Because I like Goo.  I also like Dirty.

Yes
Both of those are.
I don't think singing to a major label affected the quality of their music at all. I like the Geffen albums as much as I do the independent ones. Their 21st century Geffen stuff is all great (except for NYC Ghosts and Flowers but even that has some moments).
