pilsner:
There are a plethora of jokes that end being taken seriously enough to form cultures and fanbases of their own.  Like Air Guitar.  Or The Colbert Report.  There are also plenty of instances of satire where the satirical piece has more to offer musically that what it satirizes.  Like the Alanis Morissette cover of My Humps.

--- Quote from: Lord Rocket ---]That's the peculiar genius of Brandon Small. His songs don't seem like jokes, because bands that had come before him have done things that are far, far more idiotic (I'm looking at you, Cannibal Corpse). But then you realise that he's singing about mutating into mermen and overthrowing the land-folk, or summoning monsters in order to gather testicles for some evil ritual. Or something.

If people didn't know it was a joke, they'd probably take it seriously. And, that, my friends, is satire.

--- End quote ---

Well put!

KharBevNor:

--- Quote from: Lord Rocket on 02 Oct 2007, 21:09 ---Let's not forget that Varg's first band was named after Tolkein's Orcs.

--- End quote ---

Varg named himself after an Orc, and the word 'Burzum' comes from the inscription on the one ring. The weird thing is that Varg doesn't even like Tolkien as such. He has this really wierd racist reading of LotR where the orcs are supposed to represent the pagan vikings*, and that's why he's associated him so much with Sauron and so forth.

Also, I know the rule you're referring to, and I'm pretty sure it's 'Clouded Frost Spire', as in 'Sticking My Clouded Frost Spire Into Her Gates of Attrition'.

*(Fuck knows who the Rohirrim are in this)

LordNagash:
I was never that huge into metal. I liked a few artists, but many of my friends are huge metal heads. I felt it my duty to get the hooked on Metalocalypse and Dethklok. Also, for not really being into metal that much I really like Brendan's songs. I wonder if I like it more simply because of the show...

WriterofAllWrongs:
Not only is Brendan Small good at satire, he writes catchy tunes constantly.  It's like something embedded in his DNA to make the bounciest music possible.  Even Dethklok was catchy.  It was metal, but it most definitely showed off Small affinity for pop and melody.

Blue Kitty:
finally got the Dethalbum, even though the guy there said it was not in.
