Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
« on: 04 Oct 2007, 00:04 »

Since nobody else has mentioned it yet, I thought I'd make the topic. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass just came out earlier this week for the DS. I got my copy earlier today, and I am enjoying it thoroughly. It controls just as well as you'd expect a Zelda game to do, and for a DS game it looks absolutely incredible. I finished the first temple just now, and I may or may not play more tonight. I just hope having this game around won't prevent me from being able to concentrate on my homework.

Still, when I brought it up in Gabbly several people didn't realize it was out already, so I thought I'd let everyone know that it is in stores and it is pretty rad. If you've got a DS, there's no real reason not to get it.

Other than Link's Awakening, Zelda games on handhelds tend to sneak out without much fanfare. For instance, I often forget that The Minish Cap exists entirely.

I want to get Phantom Hourglass, but frankly Twilight Princess never caught my attention on Wii so I'm going through a period of Zelda apathy.

I want it quite badly, but alas, I want Hellgate: London more at the moment.

Everything I've heard though is that the controls are absolutely wonderful.

It's pretty much completely different from Twilight Princess. It's done in the Wind Waker style (which I think is perfect for the DS), and unlike Twilight Princess, it was actually built with the control scheme in mind, rather than being a Gamecube game ported up and forced into the control scheme. I liked Twilight Princess, but it just makes me want a Zelda game really built for the Wii much more.

But I can certainly understand Zelda apathy. I'm sure that if I hadn't finished Twilight Princess nearly a year ago, I would be significantly less excited for this game.

I hated the controls for Twilight Princess on the Wii so i just played it on Gamecube. It was awesome.

Also, i will be getting Phantom Hourglass as soon as i get paid and i am pretty excited. I've heard nothing but good things.

Also I would like to point out that the combination of Sailor Moon and faux-Kerouac / Sonic Youth spelling is perhaps the purest distillation of what this forum is that we have yet been presented with.

I can't seem to roll that easily for some reason.  Besides that little set back, which may actually be my fault instead of the games, I am enjoying it a lot.

I just finished it! It's quite a bit shorter than the console Zelda games, but I got really into it and enjoyed it quite a bit.

My game is going to arrive tomorrow but the DS Charger I ordered won't be here for another few days! (They don't sell phat-chargers in stores anymore, apparently). Oh, the injustice! Also how am I ever going to get anything done, I have absolutely no time, ohmygod link.

I haven't played the Wii version but they ruined the controls on the Gamecube version too though. Why the hell is Midna mapped to the Z trigger? She's a menu! I need that button for my bow. They also made the R trigger useless by mapping random A button functions to it and eliminating the ability to control your shield.
