Been listening to pretty much nothing but this album lately. I'm sure close to all of you know of him, but if you haven't given Grace it's deserved listen... do so now, please.

EDIT: To elaborate, what seperates Buckley, for me, from other artists is both his voice and his ability with the guitar; the first is somewhat renowned, as I believe it is documented he has a seven octave vocal range, something usually unheard of in a man. However, on the album, he isn't ostentatious about his voice and rather lets it cool with music until his range is necessary. His voice is quavery but technical, jumping from grounded to ethereal to a background whisper in momentary turns. His guitar playing is a technical flurry of notes that aren't really meant to distract from his vocals but rather create a lush atmosphere for his voice to shine. The few times where the instruments overtake the vocals (there's an amazing coda in Mojo Pin, as well as the distorted pickups in So Real) are incredibly powerful, usually falling to a quick chaos and then simmering back to let Buckley's voice take control. Some recommended songs are Grace, So Long, and his brilliant cover (and most well-known song) of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.

Thankyou for the thread! Some people Have not checked out Jeff Buckley! They now know to do so.
I suggest starting with the album that he wrote, that is maybe the best one.

I never got into Jeff Buckey. Something about his singing seemed off to me. Like he was some great actor playing a part. Maybe his music is a reflection of what his real life was like, I don't know, but the part isn't for me.

I prefer the work of his deadbeat dad. I get my fixes for Jeff's style of music elsewhere.

Also, the album he almost wrote is probably a close second.
And the album he didn't write a distant third, tying with the live recordings!

i started really gettin into this album recently, which surprised me cause i'd made an effort not to like the guy in the past. 5t seemed to me that he was singing as though he knew he was goin to die and marketin the music for teary teenage girls. On closer late night listenin i realised how instrumentally intricate, vocally powerful and well produced this album was. So it's still a bit of a guilty pleasure but i do like it alot and listen to it frequently- though you really do have tto be in the mood.

Stop feeling sorry for yourself, we're only having a laugh. The wording in your original post was amusing and we were just riffing on that. Shrug it off and show you know how to take a harmless joke.

Also, it helps if you give what you post a bit of thought. For example, your second sentence is another equally ridiculous statement. How does sarcasm "fuel your own ignorance"? What does that even mean? It sounds like a Rush lyric or something. Likewise, what's a 'hipster snob' when it's at home? Take a bit more care on your posts before you hit submit and you'll find it a lot easier.

It was great until 80% of the posts in a decent attempt at a thread were a pretty unfounded joke between two people trying to pick fun of my completely functional word usage. My wording was fine, and your condescending attitude doesn't really fit your "it's all cool" statement.

And if you think I'm "feeling sorry for myself" or taking offense, you should know that this is, despite numerous claims, just the internet. Don't worry though, I understand that in order to maintain the prestige that comes along with your post count, you had to reassure you meant no hostility while simultaneously trying to put me down, so no hard feelings at all - and to note, this response may just be an imitation of said condescension. 

To explain the excerpt you quoted, I wasn't saying anything bad about sarcasm; just saying that a bunch of people enforcing a claim through sarcasm when the claim is unfounded is a bit ignorant. I'm not particularly serious about any of this, except for the part where I tried to get people to listen to "Grace", as many people have heard Jeff Buckley's name and perhaps his cover of Hallelujah without listening to the magnificent album he left before he died.

I gotta say...it took a while to grow on me, but I do love this album. The thing that I like most is that despite the self-indulgence that is prevalent, it seems to fit in. The vocal acrobatics, the occasionally wacky guitar chords, the strings, they all seem to click. All the instrumentation seems relevant. Some people say that you know how good a song is when it works on solo acoustic, but I think 'Last Goodbye' shows that that isn't always true; the bass line, the strings and the guitar all do wonderful things to contribute to its sound. I do love 'Mojo Pin,' which I think comes through in lot of Radiohead's more guitar-y stuff. My favourite is still 'Dream Brother,' so ethereal, gorgeous yet sinister.
