Quilting

Bibliophile:
The arts & crafts thread needs more quilting. I've started going to a quilting course with my almost-mother-in-lawTM and our neighbour, so I'm going to post my work for the next couple of weeks.

Our first lesson was spent discussing what equipment and fabric we would need. I am pretty skint at the moment, so incredibly generous Muff (my almost-mother-in-lawTM) who already paid for my classes, took me on a shopping spree and we got these fabrics, cutter, ruler and board.

She was a great help in picking the colours, since she's made plenty of quilts before. I could have spent a fortune in the fabric store we went to - so many gorgeous asian themes, battics, florals etc in every conceivable colour!

In the second class, we made our first block, the most basic nine sqaure.

We get one block of homework each week, so I've cut out my stepping stones and layed out the order.

More to come!

Caiphana:
I love quilting. I should take pictures of the things I've done..

For the record, it's spelled "batik." *winks* Batiks are my favorite.

My latest quilting project was a little case for my birth control pills, because the cases they come in are butt ugly. I used batiks!

Lines:
Making the batik is probably the funnest part.

I want to learn how to  quilt, but I do not own a sewing machine. Are you using a machine or doing it by hand, Bibz?

SailorPunk:
I'm making a quilt too! It's taking a very long time though because I am doing it by hand and I have 2 cats who like to get in the way. It is my first quilt and it is just squares, but the squares make a pattern. yeah.

quilting!

Emaline:
You guys, I am bored, and feeling like I need to create something! I don't want to knit, or crochet because I am bored with both. I can't think of anything to draw, so that is out. So I have decided that I am going to make a quilt!

...Except I have never done this before, and generally don't like sewing machines(I am an awesome handstitcher). I have no freaking idea where to even begin. Any tips?
