fuck man, I posted that one god damn page ago
haven't picked up Orange Box since I got Mass Effect, and still haven't made it to any of the episodes yet. though, school did just get out for me.
Johnny C:
No excuses.
You sit down and play those right the fuck now.
I know that some of you are on your second playthrough of Mass Effect.
I want you to play Half-Life 2 and its episodes through to completion so that we can talk about them. That is what you do with narrative art forms.
Storm Rider:
Guess what's also a narrative art form? Mass Effect.
In fact, it's a much better narrative than what I've played of Half-Life 2 at this point.
Johnny C:
what
KvP:
Do we really want to compare ME and HL2? Really? I mean, both ME and HL2 have strong narratives and and satisfying paces. The former is relatively rare in an FPS and common in an RPG. The latter is relatively rare in an RPG and common in an FPS.
And there's a good reason people play repeatedly through ME more often than HL2. ME, being an RPG, has a number of variant paths to take through the game that make it more or less fresh the second or third time around (most obviously, the paragon / renegade playstyles) in some RPGs the different paths are radically different. All that HL2 and most any other FPS can offer in that department is variance in the way fights play out. As such, I haven't gone through any of the HL2 iterations more than once. In fact, more often than not I'll just jump to a specific chapter if I want to go through a specific fight. But I won't slog through the entire game. I know the way it plays out. What's the point. And don't take that as an argument that ME is a better game, because it isn't.
