The Orange Box discussion thread (possible spoilers)

<< < (36/46) > >>

Inlander:
Man, they got that video all wrong. The turrets aren't annoying internet dicks, they're curious little children who want to kill you!

Scandanavian War Machine:
yeah, not even close. still funny...just not accurate.

also; anyone know if these updates will be available on the 360? i know IGN said that Valve said "we don't know yet" but i figured with your internet skills, you guys might know something else about it.

Melodic:
So far I think it's PC first, and eventual release for the 360.

Dimmukane:
Yeah, but I would put money on the 360 owners having to pay for it.  This is why I bought two versions of the game.

Well, no it's not.  But it's another justification.

Narr:

Agreed.

I broke them down as to how I'd accomplish them.

--- Quote from: List #1, things that are pretty easy to do ---   2. Quadruple Bypass: Heal a teammate who's taking fire from 4 enemies at once.
   3. Group Health: Work with 2 other medics to deploy 3 simultaneous uber-charges.
   4. Surgical Prep: Have an uber-charge ready before the setup phase ends.
   6. Double Blind Trial: Deploy an uber-charge within 8 seconds of a nearby enemy medic deploying his.
   7. Play Doctor: In a team with no medics, be first to switch to medic after a teammate calls "Medic!" and then heal 500 health.
   9. Preventive Medicine: Block the enemy from capturing a control point with an uber-charged teammate.
  11. Does It Hurt When I Do This?: Kill 50 scouts with your syringe gun.
  15. Autoclave: Assist in burning 8 enemies with a single uber-charge on a pyro.
  16. Blast Assist: Assist in exploding 5 enemies with a single uber-charge on a soldier.
  19. Midwife Crisis: Heal an engineer as he repairs his sentry while it's under enemy fire.
  21. Grand Rounds: Heal 200 teammates after they've called for "Medic!"
  22. Infernal Medicine: Extinguish 100 burning teammates.
  23. Doctor Assisted Homicide: Assist in killing 20 nemesis.
  28. Chief of Staff: Accumulate 10 million total heal points.
  29. Hypocritical Oath: Kill an enemy spy that you have been healing.
  31. Second Opinion: Uber-Charge 2 teammates at once.
  33. FYI I Am A Medic: Use your bonesaw to kill 5 enemy spies who have been calling for "Medic!"
  34. Family Practice: Uber-charge ten of your steam community friends.
  35. House Call: Join a game that one of your friends is in and then deploy and uber-charge on him.

--- End quote ---
Honestly, nothing in this one seems too dramatic or difficult.  Some of them will take awhile to get, sure, but it's nothing that requires LUCK.  This is 19 of the 36, though, so that's good.  About half.  I could put #11 and #15 down in the next one, but it's really nothing that's never been done before.

--- Quote from: List #2, luck is a factor ---   8. Triage: Deploy an uber-charge on a teammate less than a second before they're hit by a critical explosive.
  10. Consultation: Assist a fellow medic in killing 5 enemies in a single life.
  12. Peer Review: Kill 50 medics with your bone saw.
  13. Big Pharma: Assist a heavy in killing 30 enemies where neither of you die.
  14. You'll Feel A Little Prick: Assist in killing 4 enemies with single uber-charge on a scout.
  17. Blunt Trauma: Assist in punching out 4 enemies with a single uber-charge on a heavy.
  18. Medical Breakthrough: Assist in destroying 8 enemy engineer buildings with a single uber-charge on a Demoman.
  20. Ubi Concordia, IBI Victoria: Assist in killing 5 enemies on an enemy control point, in a single life.
  25. Sawbones: Hit enemies with your bonesaw 10 times in arrow without dying or missing.
  26. Intern: Accumulate 7000 heal points in a single life.
  30. Medical Prevention: Save a falling teammate from dying on impact.
  32. Autopsy Report: Provide an enemy with a freezecam shot of you taunting above their ragdoll.
  33. FYI I Am A Medic: Use your bonesaw to kill 5 enemy spies who have been calling for "Medic!"
  36. Bedside Manner: Be healing a teammate as he achieves an achievement of his own.

The ones where you need kills with a certain class might not be too hard if you've got the Critzkrieg unlock, but I'd say they are pretty damn hard with or without it.  A lot of the other ones in here assume there's some sort of freakish circumstance where you'd need to luck out (for example, i know my game glitches half the time I die, sending my body careening across the open space, so my ragdoll is rarely actually in the same frame as whatever killed me, medic or otherwise.)

--- Quote from:  List #3, things that valve made just to piss everyone off ---   1. First Do No Harm: Play a full round without killing any enemies and score the highest on a team of 6 or more players.
   5. Trauma Queen: Deploy 3 uber-charges in less than 5 minutes, and assist in 5 kills during that time.
  24. Placebo Effect: Kill 5 enemies in a single life while having your uber-charge ready, but undeployed.
  27. Specialist: Accumulate 10000 heal points health in a single life.

--- End quote ---
#1: wut.  This assumes your team either sucks, or that there aren't any sniper or spies on your team.
#5: ahaha.... no.  not going to happen.  I don't see how you could build up 3 ubers in 5 minutes and not die.  I guess it doesn't say anything about not dying, so maybe it's possible after all.  The thing is, you're going to need to be up front healing a lot of teammates in order to actually accummulate enough charge to get off 3 in 5 minutes.
#24: If this was simply kill 5 enemies in a single life as a medic, I don't think I could do it.
#27: My record is about 5k.  That's it.  10k?  I don't know if that's entirely possible.  You'd probably have to go the whole round without dying and that's also assuming your team doesn't lose in 5 seconds from scout rushes or something.
