This thread is a sort of a challenge. I want you all to post any bands from any time period in any rock-related genre (some jazz, etc. influence is okay, but it must be in the context of some rock) that did not use guitars or used them very sparingly. Good ones are recommended.
I'm honestly quite curious as to how many of them exist. I mean, I'll allow the use of guitars on songs but it can't ever really be the focus of the song -- other instruments, that is, bass, organ, piano, brass sections, etc. have to be more of the emphasis. ABSOLUTELY NO GUITAR SOLOS.
This is for at least one album for the band. If they have like one or two songs that incorporate an acoustic on another album or something or occasionally throw in a electric guitar lick or something on one, that'll be okay.
It's not that I have anything against guitars, I just want to see how many bands got by without using them much.
Here's the first offering:
Manfred Mann - Chapter Three (Vol. 1) 1969
