Gigs you've been to and your thoughts.

a pack of wolves:
An hour and a half is far too long a set for almost any band in my opinion. Forty five minutes is an upper limit that should only be breached for good reason. Speaking of long sets, I saw Clinic on Friday who split their set into two. The first half consisted of their latest album played through in its entirety with what they called their archive set afterwards. They announced this at the start, presumably so nobody would start freaking out over not hearing Walking With Thee. The result was mixed. The new material's good but putting it up against a following set where they could cherry pick from throughout their career (which is pretty long at this point) meant that it was overshadowed. Also, Clinic are much better at pop gems than they are the the more meandering numbers, and there's a few too many on the new album. If they'd just taken the best tracks like The Witch and slotted them in amongst the older songs they would have had a very tight, powerful set. It was a very enjoyable gig and the sound was as good as it usually is at the Brudenell, just a pity that when I finally get around to seeing them some ten years after hearing them on Peel they didn't produce a gig as good as they clearly could have done.

Albatron:
Yeah I realized what he meant about 30 min after I posted that and now that I think about it, an hour and a half, maybe it was more like 15, is a long set, but I certainly don't think they played too long.

I forgot to post on this thread after seeing Explosions in the Sky at the Starlight Ballroom in Philly last Wednesday.  I had my best friend (Clintaga) and my since-recently-girlfriend with me and we had all had a little bit of blotter (just fractions of a hit each, it was a weeknight after all) and it was really amazing.  They were totally on point and played a fantastic set.  It was basically exactly what I'd wanted out of the night and I loved it.
