Gigs you've been to and your thoughts.

Was at Belladrum music festival the last couple of days. I was working so I didn't get to see all the bands I would have liked to but I did see a couple.
The Kazoo Funk Orchestra were amazing. I had high hopes for a band with a name like that but they surpassed all expectations. Their stage presence was incredible. They had 14 band members on stage, all giving it there all. The music was not what I expected, they were a real band and they were awesome, they had Kazoo's but they were not the main instrument. There was one hot dancing girl so we copied all her moves, right down at the barrier. Afterward we went and bought there album (Free crayon and colouring book inside) and T-Shirt (Which is really cool) and got free badges and our photo taken (which should be going on there website). After this I went back to work and spotted the big bearded guy with the Fender Jaguar. We had a big chat with him and persuaded him to buy a lamb burger, then a few of the other band members came along and we had even more chat. Basically they were the best live act I've ever seen and it will be hard to beat. GO SEE THEM.
Cold War Kids were alright.
Jefferson Starship were brilliant. They were all really old but they could still rock the fuck out, and they did it well. At the end of White Rabbit the drummer through his stick into the crowd and I caught it. Best moment ever.
There were a lot of excellent acts at belladrum, I can't wait to go back next year, it was amazing.

On Saturday, I went to see My Morning Jacket at Waterfront Park in Louisville with 10,000 of my neighbors. I guess this is what they mean when they call someone a local hero.
This was my first time seeing them live. In my defense, I haven't actually lived here that long and so I never really got a chance to see them play at the little local clubs about town. They have a lot of on-stage presence, and the crowd had a lot of energy and enthusiasm. Also, they know how to throw a party. They ditched the usual budwiser and generic hot-dog stands you usually find at outdoor concerts in favor of local breweries and local restaurants. Jim James said he wanted it to be a "celebration of all things Louisville," and I think he succeeded.
I was walking in to the park as the first song was playing, and at first I was worried. The sound seemed off. I thought the engineer was trying to compensate for the outdoors and that many people by just over micing everything. But by the 2nd song, everything was blending properly and the remainder of the evening was amazing. They took a short break at one point, but other than that played continuously for about three and a half hours. We might make too much out of this band for being home town heroes, but they do put on a good show and they are doing rock in a way that far too few are doing it any more. There's a celebration of something going on when they play. They're playing because its fun and because they want us to have fun too.

There are two shows I can say were the best ones I've ever gone to.
One was a show with Off Minor, Comadre and Aussitot Mort. Aussitot Mort was pretty cool but nothing noteworthy to say about them. Comadre, however, was one of the best bands I've ever seen live. The atmosphere was very intense and everyone was standing extremely close to the band(I couldn't count how many times the singer bumped his ass against my crotch). Some people sang along at some part and of course they ended with "Hit me up on my celly-cell". Really awesome show. They were followed by Off Minor, who I thought were better than Comadre but no one seemed to think so. Suddenly the atmosphere disappeared and most people were too preoccupied with evading the singer/guitarists wild swings. Even so, they played a hell of a show. Jamie(the guitarist/singer) broke 2 or 3 strings during the show and the drummer lost a drum several times during songs.
The other show was Cutting Pink With Knives' last show ever at Rock Herk. There was a podium, security and a fence between the crowd and the band but despite that they jumped over the fence one by one to play IN the crowd. There was no drummer so it was doable(instead, they have their drum/synth beats on their iPod, which meant they had to get back up the stage to stop/start the song). In between songs the singer kept bullshitting about all kinds of stuff. Insinuating pedophilia is okay in Belgium and that all his jokes are as good as politically correct since he's Jewish. He was hilarious. The whole show was pretty chaotic, sometimes the bass would just give up and he would just use another one he set up. Or one of the roadies took the microphone and jumped over the fence to sing instead of the normal vocalist(those vocals were fucking amazing though). At the very last song the bassist bashed his guitar into the ground and everyone tried to get a piece. The show gave me an almost sexual afterglow for the next several days.

Jonny Lang is a beast.
Jesus Christ. That was one of the best shows I have ever been to, period. Plus I got a poster and a guitar pick so whooo!
