Gigs you've been to and your thoughts.

It's not really a gig, but I stopped by a cafe to catch a friend of mine do a splendid cover of "Lua" for open mic night.

Yep. He was good, but a little snippy; apparently, it was the last night of touring that had been going on since April. I wasn't wholly impressed but I suppose I can't blame the dude for being tired.

I'm not sure I can imagine seeing Final Fantasy at a conventional gig. I mean, if he was playing London, I'd go, but I saw him play at Latitude Festival, and there was something about watching him in the woods that seemed just right.

This hasn't been done for a while but I think it's a good thread. So here is a revival attempt.
Alright, couple of weeks ago I saw Built to Spill and they were really good. Unbelievably into their music, I think half the time they forgot there was even an audience watching them. It was a horrendously hot night and half way through a guy front and centre collapsed onto the stage. Only one of the guitarists noticed and started calling out for security. Who just didn't come. Couple of minutes later he stopped the show to help the guy himself and give him his water. I was also impressed by how "un-indie" they looked. They were just wearing crumpled t-shits and were balding and over weight. Its obviously more about the music than it is the image. They finished with "Randy described eternity", which went into this epic ambient jam which felt like it lasted the century. That was the lowlight actually, the encore should be cleaner than that, leave the show on a high.
Last nnight I saw Andrew Bird. Excellent show. I dragged along my girlfreind who'd never heard of him. This was a very big mistake. Within 15 minutes, she was whispering: "he shall be mine, oh yes, he shall be". It was a great show though, even with her quite publically swooning with me by her side. We got some Nervous Tic Motion action, which is always good. He read the crowd very well, and changed the set list a couple of time to meet their demands. Really funny, crazy, charismatic guy. Fucking talented. I'd deffinitely see him again. Most impressive was his masterly use of the loop pedal, which worked brilliantly, and he actually altered a few songs using this with different whistling layered over and shit.
I'm seeing the National next saturday, which should be a good show.
Ishotdanieljohnston:
That would've been fantastic. Can't wait to see him next month.
