Headphones are infinitely better than a speaker system because I don't have a room that's any good, everyone else in my family is pretty deaf so there's one hell of a lot of background noise to mitigate and with speakers everone else has to listen to it too.

Then again, I just taped something off the radio onto an old tape dated 1983 that I think I picked up in an op shop somewhere and looks pretty ratty so I can listen to it in my car which only has mids and the front passenger door speaker buzzes sometimes.

-ed actually usually I tape my driving music off youtube

That's actually kind of endearing, in a way.

But with sound, speakers are to headphones as desktops are to iPhones in regards to surfing the internet; it gets it done, but it's nowhere near as satisfactory.  The songs are sort of designed to be played on speakers, just like how the internet is optimized to be accessed from an honest-to-god computer.  Though some headphones are wonderful, there always seems to be some shortcoming in the EQ or even the design itself.

I do agree that this could potentially have some dire ramifications in regards to purple drank.

Gee, good that I found this thread, timing couldn't be better.

I was planning to buy a pair of KOSS PortaPros, has anyone here ever owned some or can recommend better ones in the same price range (50€ish)?

I have a pair of Grado SR-60s that are amazing. Obviously, they're not the kind of thing you would walk around wearing.

I beg to differ, sir.

I love wearing mine around. they're so goddamn big, and everyone can hear what you're listening to! maybe that's not a plus for everyone, haha.
